So, it's 8:50 and all's not well. Dh did not get proper care yesterday when he was transferred and I made myself heard loud and clear (when he is home, the president of the hospital will hear from me). The head of infectious diseases spoke to us and she is not overly concerned. He has no signs of infection and it is very possible that he has bacteria, but is not 'infected' by it. More tests are being done and nothing will happen over the weekend. He is in a funk, feeling lousy and did not want to do what he's supposed to do - walk, sit in a chair, etc. A little lecture from me took care of that. Then, early evening I got a cell call that no apartment dweller wants to get - please come home; your neighbor above you has a pipe that burst in a riser. So, I have major water damage to the floors in both bedrooms, furniture moved and strangers in and out of my apartment. While they were pulling up carpet, tearing out padding, vacuuming up water and watching the wood floors buckle, I decided to drink some wine shipped home from Napa along with chocolate from the Ferry Bldg (that's why this still belongs on this thread - there is a travel connection). And it has taken the edge off. So as they parade in and out of my apt, I am drinking and thinking that ds1 flew back to NM this morning safely before the torrential rains; that I spoke to ds2 earlier (an engineering senior) and he is happy and excelling; and Thanksgiving is around the corner and we will have a little, quiet celebration and I'll cook and complain how much work it is, but things will be better and we will be together.

Can California wine gives someone the clarity to realize that worse things can happen?

Thank you dear friends for caring!

CP,
I can't believe what you've been through today. Sorry to hear about DH.

Is DH either at Cornell/Columbia, NYU, or Mt Sinai?

Good grief! I think you are beyond the "bad things come in threes" point. Thank goodness for the wine and chocolate, and I'm glad it helped you see things from a positive perspective.

Hang in there.

I'm sorry for everything CP. You both have been through so much lately.

You would be proud of me in that DW and I are going to see Osage County in early December. We both can't wait to see Hair in Feb. I think I'll wear my Tie-Dye shirt underneath my navy blue blazer for the show.

DW and I want to take you out to dinner when you're up to it.

andrew - thanks!

You will really enjoy 'Osage County.' It was my #1 drama recommendation last season. This season, it's 'Equus,' but I haven't seen 'A Man for All Seasons' yet, but I am so looking forward to it. I haven't seen anything about 'Hair' ticket sales, but am still watching for you. FORGET the blazer!!!! Tie died shirt and jeans are absolutely appropriate for 'Hair.' LOL

Austin - again, good luck tomorrow and let us know how it goes.

CP, I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am that you (and, more importantly, your DH) have been through this. I hope everything turns out well. Let us Californians know if you run out of wine and we can send you some more!

Oh Centralparkgirl, I just read your last posts.

How is your husband today? Much better I sincerely hope!

And your apartment, what condition is it now in? Water damage can be horrible.

And you have such a good attitude..I think it is your beautiful personality and not just because of the California wine and the chocolates.

Sending you and your husband my very best wishes and prayers dear one. May every day get better and better!

CP,
I have some interesting news about what DW and I did last night. You better hang on to your barrel of vino because you're not going to believe what I did.
Saturday night after we got home from dinner in the city, DW mentions how she would love to see Boz Scaggs again at the Blue Note as she loved seeing him with her best friend earlier in the week.

So I check online to see that the 8pm show is booked on Sunday night. Right then I say to myself, I am totally off the hook....NO Boz Scaggs !!!
That wasn't the case because last night I was Shanghaied into seeing Boz Scaggs at the 10:30pm . Can you believe it?? AC/DC got panned this week for Boz Scaggs.
My DW is a huge Boz Scaggs fan so she really wanted to see him again. What's worse CP is that I killed time during the 75 minutes of totally agony by having not 1 but 2 servings of sorbet. I thought having a sugar buzz would take away the pain.

As for the performance, even with our table right in front it was Ok at best. What ruined the evening was I tried to get an autograph CD for DW and was told that Boz hasn't done that in years. That's when I grabbed DW's tiny hand and headed home faster than I can eat a whole large Lombardi's pizza pie.

Hope today was a better day for you both.

andrew - we are going to have to have a chat - there are far better things than sorbet to take away pain! I'm worried about you!!

Thanks again everyone. I wish I had something good to report, but no real progress for dh. He's is so discouraged and I'm getting slightly worried. Today is day 11 and no end in sight. I will be speaking to his surgeon in the morning while the plumbers are breaking a wall in my apt to replace a pipe. The fact that there is built-in furniture in front of the wall shouldn't be a problem, right?

On a lighter note, when dh was admitted I paid for tv in his room up until the day of surgery and told the tv guy, I will resume service after the surgery when he is feeling better. On Thurs, I called to resume and was told I owed money for the surgery day and the following day. I told her that was impossible and then this dope tells me that he's not allowed to watch tv because his mother called and he doesn't have permission to watch. This is exactly my response: "Well, that is quite interesting because his mother has been dead for over 25 years and if you speak to her again, would you have her call me? I would love to chat with her." I could not make this up if I tried.

You are definitely being tested, CP Girl! But by your posts you seem to have the right attitude to weather this storm.

Good thoughts for your DH’s full recovery!

CP - still reading to stay up to date on your dh. I am so sorry and pray things turn around.

Andrew - you had me LOL!!

DW is on the money. I saw Boz years ago - at my very favorite outdoor venue in San Diego - Humphry's on the Bay. It was actually a magical night. Dh and I had a blast!

Thanks for the support, guys!! I truly appreciate it.

Yesterday was really tough (his morale was at its lowest.), but I think he's finally turned a corner. He started liquids and he's tolerating them. If all goes well today, maybe ice cream tomorrow. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but because he was so ill going into the surgery and the surgery was so extensive, these little steps are huge. And his head is in a better place today. I am home this morning while walls are smashed and pipes replaced. My super is doing whatever he has control to do and giving my apt priority, but it is a process.

I am starting to function a la Scarlett O'Hara because there is only so much that can be handled in one day.....and there's always tomorrow!

Has anyone heard anything about Austin's dh?

Thanks CP !

I have an Amex that should allow me to get these tickets, but its not a Gold.

I'm going to look into it right now.

CP!
One quick question...how is the leg room at this theater??? Do I need to get isle seating or can you slide your feet under the seat in front of you?
