Central Oregon- New Lodge
Sunday some friends and I drove up to Suttle Lake from Eugene ( Suttle Lake is about 20 miles from Sisters) and discovered they had built a new lodge and some cabins. The lodge is REALLY beautiful with huge great hall with fireplace, decks overlooking the lake - it is amazing. We ** toured ** a room - and were so impressed we are booking a weekend there soon - room we looked at was $240/night with great views of the lake from the kingsize bed. Rooms appointed beautifully - fireplace in room -
There are a couple of cabins lakefront but were unavailable for us to view - looked wonderful though. There is a nice trail around the lake 3.5 miles for walking, marina with canoes, party barge, paddle boats for rent- nice restaurant on the water - we loved it.
It is close to the HooDoo ski area so would be great for winter activities also -
There is a website but picture doesnt really do justice to the lodge -
If you are planning to be in the area - check it out!!

Please let me know how it is when you go. Our family camped there almost every weekend during the summers of my childhood, and so it holds a special place in my heart. The fire a few years ago really did a number on the area, unfortunately. If you feel like some fun and it is warm, go over to Scout Lake and see if the old rope swing is still there

We stopped by for the traditional lunch at Suttle Lake on our way home from Black Butte last month, sunbum. Wow! Did you notice the front door? Whoever carved it was some artist.
Let's see.... Lodge at Suttle Lake, Metolius River Resort, or Tu Tu'Tun? So many places, and so little time (and at the cost of these places, money).

Oh yes- the front door was amazing- plus several other carvings on the inside.
The duvet cover in the suite was made from some microfibre and felt like soft suede and there was a big soft stuffed bear on every bed. The king bed was one of those huge ones that you need steps to get in-
Its hard to imagine that at those prices they will keep the place filled though-
When I go - I will go with a group of 3 other singles - so splitting the cost 4 ways makes it a little easier to handle
I have lived in the PNW for 15 years and have only scratched the surface of places to explore -

Beachbum- but there is sooooooooo much more I want to do - haven't been to ONP yet, havent even been to Ashland, and then there is the Wallowas and the list goes on and on - and work just interferes with everything- except of course providing a way to pay for travels.
anyway- I have done more than many so cant complain.

Come on out Jim- I moved here from Kansas City after getting divorced - had no job, no home- stayed with a friend until I found a place to live - hit the ground running and been running ever since. Grew up in the prairies of Canada and still cant believe I live here- my friends say I should work for the dept of tourism .

Beachbum, I assume you know that it is the University of Houston Cougars...?
This promises to be a cat fight, does it not? U of H is trying to get back to a competitive level, but unless they have improved tremendously since last year, this may be ugly.
I agree: Go Coogs..

Beachbum, my apologies, I totally misread your message. I thought you guys were the Cougars, as well. Should have known: Ducks, for gosh sakes.
Sorry, but we appreciate your support...
(Back in S.C., friends used to say their favorite football team was whoever was playing Clemson that week...)

Awww, thank you Jim
Sunbum, beachbum, is it a very long drive from Portland to Suttle Lake? It sounds lovely, but since we get lost most times that we set out in the car, I need to factor in the getting lost time for any longer drives out of town lol.
This sounds like it might be nice for our anniversary in Nov..you think?
How great that you came here with no home or job and look at you now!

You beat me to the punch, mms, both with Scarlett and Jim. Scarlett, while you're at it, take a look at the Metolius River Resort website. It might tempt you further to know that meals at the Kokanee Cafe there rival most you'll have in Portland.
And if you're going that far, you MUST at least drive into Black Butte to the lodge for just the view of the mountain peaks surrounding the meadow. In the over 20 years I've been going there, I've never tired of it.
I was going to write "go Coogs" Jim, but I'd have spelled it "Cougs". Like mms wrote, whoever's playing against the Ducks or Huskies is who I'm pullin for.

Alas, Scarlett, the Pup will not be allowed at Suttle Lake, in either the lodge or any of the cabins.
Looks nice, though.
When we lived in Eugene, we did a lot of week-end trips to Odell Lake Lodge, staying in one of the newer cabins (#10, as I recall). Pets were welcome there. More rustic than Suttle Lake, but very beautiful and peaceful. Although prices have gone up a lot since the last time we were there.

Oh...and the Huskies
