Caution Re: National Car Rental

Read the fine print on your confirmation!

All of a sudden, this week, National's rates are starting to pop up without unlimited free mileage. In many locations, their weekend rates pop up with only "100 free miles per day" permitted.

National used to have some of the best one-way-drop rates between several cities, but now their rates are popping up with 35c per mile additional charges. 35c a mile can really add up!

Let's hope the other rental companies aren't about to follow suit.

Thanks, Clark -- I just booked a car for next month and was comparing rental companies and found this, too. Hah! Went with Dollar -- half the price and unlimited miles. Too bad, National.

Wow. How "retro". I'm old enough to remember the days when there was always a per mile charge on car rentals. Then we were treated to the ability to look for a firm which offered unlimited miles until nearly everybody did it all the time. Now looks like we're headed backwards again!!! I wonder how many people will sign up for their deals not realizing this add-on until it is too late!
