Will definitely second Sel de la Terre, which has excellent food, offers one of the best bread baskets I've encountered in the Boston area, and is surprisingly kid-friendly.
Joe's is basically a pub grub spot, not bad for what it is, but one can definitely do better given that it's on the doorstep of the North End, where one can find plenty of worthy places to eat. Antico Forno is a very good choice in the North End, specializing in wood-fired oven pizza (very good, if maybe not quite at the scintillating level of the original Pizzeria Regina on Thacher Street) and baked Southern Italian dishes. There are several other spots here I like as much or better depending on what you're looking for, but Antico Forno is fine.
