Has anyone stayed at the Cobblestone Inn, Cypress Inn, or Carmel Bay View Inn? I would appreciate a recommendation. I want a room that is cozy, has a fireplace, down comforter, and near everything.

Cypress Inn is really nice with a great location, but I don't know if they have any rooms with fireplaces. They do have a fireplace in the lobby/common room

I have stayed at the Cobblestone Inn. I liked it because it had a lot of the charm and features of a B&B (breakfast in a common room, drinks and snacks in late afternoon, place to relax in front of the fire and read magazines)but big enough so you don't have to sit down and have breakfast with your hosts or other guests). Each room has a fake fireplace, not sure about down comforter, but does have a great location with all within walking distance.

When I said "fake fireplace" what I meant was it was gas logs. You turn it on and you do get flames.

We stayed at the Carmel Bay view Inn and just loved it. The Inn Offers spectacular views of Point Lobos and the coast--all from downtown. They have a wonderful continental breakfast and while people will try to tell you that no Inn has views of the coast from in town don't believe them! This place has a fourth and fifth floor set up on a hill in the back of town with wonderful balconies, large rooms, fireplaces and and the MOST COMFORTABLE HUGE BED WE HAVE EVER SLEPT IN!!!

Oh, and a down comforter to boot.

We love the Cypress Inn which is owned by Doris Day and permits dogs to stay. The rooms are lovely and it's very, very central in downtown Carmel. I honestly can't remember if we had a fireplace or down comforter because it was summer. But, it has a lovely little patio out in back on which to enjoy a glass of wine and includes a nice breakfast.

How's The Highland Inn?

The Highland Inn is wonderful. The only drawback is that, depending on what time of year you're traveling, traffic into Carmel can be a bear--plus you have parking to contend with.

David, thanks for the information. We will be in the Carmel area during the week. We will be driving up the coast from Cambria. Do you think we should spend one night in the Big Sur area and the other two nights in Carmel or spend all 3 nights in Carmel? My husband likes to golf...I like to see things and shop. Is it best to stay in Carmel or are Monterrey or Pacific Grove just as appealing?
