Carlton Hotel in SF, anyone??

Just wondering if anyone has stayed at the Carlton Hotel on Sutter in San Francisco? We planning a trip in October and a few people mentioned it--does anyone have any input? Thanks in advance.

I did a search for "Carlton Hotel" in this forum and found a thread dated 10/30/1999. You might want to read that series of posts.

While I have not stayed at the Carlton, I can say that the neighborhood is something that I as a local am comfortable with, but I have heard visitors comment negatively on.

i am peter from england,my wife and i stayed at the carlton 2 years ago(on a tour with cosmos coaches.they book there guests here so cosmos think its ok.although there are a lot of dropouts on and around market street they tend to leave you alone.my wife and i are only small and didn,t feel threatened.the hotel isn,t fantastic but is ok.if you preview the movie channel watch for them trying to charge you.have a great time, san francisco is great.

A friend of mine swears by the Beresford Hotel on Sutter. It has a nice warm feel, small pub and nice rooms. Same area as you are already looking in. May want to check it out. I live here, so have never stayed there, but we have had drinks there and it looks good.
