Car Service or Taxi from SFO
Can car service be reserved in advance (like we do in NY) for transportation from SFO to downtown? Or is a taxi the way to go? What are the approximate costs for both? Does a taxi have a flat rate or a meter?
We are arriving in the evening with more luggage than we usually travel with and I'm not interested in public transportation.
Thanks for any info!

We usually use public, but had an early morning flight and took a car service. It was $50.

Thanks ladies for such quick replies!
I looked at SFO's website and there's a link to lots of car services listed alphabetically. Do you by any chance know a couple of names that are well known and established businesses (like Carmel, Dial7, etc.)? Or do you think that we should just get a taxi?

Hello Centralparkgirl, I don't know anyone that has ever used a car service from SFO, everyone always uses taxis which always works out just fine. Have a wonderful time. Your son is going to start university I believe. If so I wish him a very successful and happy year!

LI - thanks for the suggestion - and good wishes! A taxi it will be. It's always good to know what the locals do. He's starting grad school even though he looks like he could be starting undergrad - aaah, youth!
