Car Rental Sky Harbor Airport

We are flying into Sky Harbor Airport - rental prices seem to be a lot higher than other cities I've rented in (San Fran, Myrtle Beach, Orlando). Any suggestions on reasonable, dependable car rentals out of Phoenix?

Hotwire got a lot of negative reviews, so I think I'd prefer just renting from a rental agency.

Hi Everybody,

Yes, you are right. Prices are very high. Check out my thoughts within this previous thread: http://tinyurl.com/yh8o4bm It worked for us very well!

Be sure to Search the Forums using the terms "Phoenix car rental". There is lots of good advice there.

I also think you should try a bid on Priceline. I've done this 2 x now and both times I ended up with Hertz at a much discounted rate.

If you have a AAA membership, be sure and enter that option. Often saves 15%. Enterprise is frequently less than the other majors. Continue to test price as you get closer to the trip. If they still have cars available, prices decline.

If you can get to your hotel on light rail service, you can test a neighborhood rental car location, often much less than airport pricing.

Last year we booked ENTERPRISE NEAR the airport (PHX).. the fees were much lower, and it was a short ride from the airport.. and on our way back we stayed at a hotel that had a free shuttle TO the airport...

If you do rent at the airport it is still a good ways from the terminal. You have to take a shuttle. Just giving you a heads up so you can plan your time accordingly.

It works better if you can leave someone with the luggage and not have to take it on the shuttle.

They rent a lot of PT Cruisers out there--you see them all over the place, especially at GC. They don't have a lot of luggage room if that could be a problem for you.

I've used Hotwire and rented a full size car since we were going to be camping out of it for 10 days. They did not have any full size cars when we got there and we were stuck with a small Volvo. Yes, it as a more expensive car but we needed more room--very annoying.
