Car Hire in Waikiki

We are heading to Oahu early October. We usually hire a car once we get there but there will be 2 families now and wondering if anyone has hired an 8 seater, as parking and rental could be shared between the two families.
So if possible are 8 seaters readily available or should we book one in now? Best place to hire from?
Thanks

I think I'd be just a little concerned about parking a larger vehicle like that. I always rent from Avis. I don't recall seeing 8-seaters. That doesn't mean they are not available.

Waikiki itself is easy walking, if that is where you are actually staying, and you can hop on all sorts of buses to get to malls and sights you want to explore. Maybe you could rent your vehicle for just a couple of days so you can make the drive around Oahu to visit the north shore area?

I do love making that drive, by the way. There are some really beautiful spots for photo ops, as well as shrimp trucks for lunch (yummy!!!) and shave ice in Haleiwa. And of course, a stop to watch the surfers. There are times of the year when the waves are HUGE!

Have a great time.

I had the same question. Well, a car for 2. As I posted in another thread, we're staying with a friend in Waikiki. She has a 2 parking spots, so we won't be paying a charge for parking.

Are we better off renting a car upon arrival and returning it at departure--10 days later? I was thinking that getting a car for just a part of the trip would require more scheduling than we really want to make.

Even if we did rent a car for the entire trip, are we still better off exploring downtown by bus? I've read that parking can be difficult there? How is it by Pearl Harbor?

Pearl Harbor has its own parking area. There are parking lots and garages in Waikiki, but of course, they cost money.
