cape cod to newark airport
We are a family of 4 travelling from Cape Cod to Newark airport over 4 days before our return to Scotland. Does anyone have any suggestions for must see places to visit on route and if possible suggest 3 hotels to stay in. Our budget is up to $350/400 per night.

So, are you taking 4 days to drive from the Cape to Newark, or does the 4 days involve your time on the Cape as well?
One stop I'd suggest is Newport RI, there are several Hotels and Inns that would fit your budget...what time of year are you talking about?

to give you an idea....you could easily spen 2 day there, then head to CT or even NYC for a day or 2.

There is a lot to see and do between the two spots. The ages of your children and your interests will define what is best. The shore route can take you through Newport RI, Mystic CT etc. I understand there is a great exhibit of several naval ships docked in fall River MA.
Another potion is to head west through MA to the Berkshire, cross into NY State and then travel down through the historic Hudson Valley. there is a lot to see and do through the valley related to revolutionary war history and there is the US Military Academy at West Point.

Hi clom, if you travel route 95 through Connecticut the Clinton Crossing Mall is an outlet mall the girls would love. If you are going to shop might as well get a discount. http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=12

The Clinton Outlets are close to Essex, Chester and Old Saybrook. The first two towns being very quaint with some independent stores the girls might like. These towns are historic but very charming New England towns. Old Saybrook is not as quaint but also has some nice shopping for girls their age. There is also the Tanger Westbrook Outlets. Westbrook is the town in between Old Saybrook and Clinton.
