Cape Cod - Falmouth
My family (with a 6 yr old & 2 yr old boys) will travel from NYC to Falmouth for 2 nights in late August. We will be staying at Inn in the Square. Questions:
1) Any nice beach good for kid nearby where we stay?
2) Any suggestion where else should we go that is fun for our family?
3) Any good restaurant suggestion?
4) Anyone stay at this hotel before?
Thanks

If the hotel can get you beach stickers for town beaches, go to Wood Neck Beach (about 3 miles from the inn) . It is on Buzzards Bay and has an inlet to a salt marsh. The inlet is great for little kids because it is shallow and sheltered from the waves. There are also paths through the marsh which have lots of things little boys like i.e. snails, toads, minnnows etc. Just check their pockets before they leave!
Also there is a bike path from Falmouth to Woods Hole which passes by the beach which faces Martha's Vineyard. So you could rent bikes with a pull cart for the kids, stop at the beach on the way there or back, go to the Aquarium in Wood's Hole and eat at the Black Duck.

Falmouth area - family suggestions. Family Restaurants: Hearth & kettle; Mcmenamys Seafood; Landfall Restaurant; the Dome, and Flume restaurants.
Other nearby places: Ashumet Holly Reservation; Heritage Plantation; Falmouth center; Woods Hole; Shining Sea Bike Path.
There are at least 8 excellent beaches in Falmouth.

I stayed at the Inn on the Square at the end of March, but just for the night. It was really just a place to stay for us as we were attending a function nearby and needed accomodations for the evening. It was very basic: nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. Since the town of Woods Hole is nearby I'm going to recommend the Fishmonger Cafe as a restaurant to try, and suggest you visit the small aquarium that is part of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.

Thank you for all the suggestion. Is this mean I need a beach sticker to go to the nearby beach? I have not checked with my hotel about this. What if my hotel does not provide me this sticker? Is there any good & clean local beach in Falmouth that also opens to public or from out of state visitor?
Thx

In response to you rbeach question. I've always found the beaches at the Cape, particularly in the Falmouth-Yarmouth part, to be a bit of a hassle.
You will need a parking sticker to get on almost any beach -- they're sold by the day at the beach. If you want one for a week and month, you'll have to go to the town hall to buy one (unless the system has been changed since I was there).
Of course, if for instance you decide you want to visit a Cape beach in a different town for a day, you'll have to buy a sticker for that beach.
I suggest you call your hotel and ask them about the sticker situation.

Hi,
Just called my hotel they says I need to pay at the beach for parking. Is this all I need for the parking sticker? Does anyone has idea how much this will be (hope is less than $10)? Any nice becah in Falmouth is good for family?
As for food, I believe the famous cape cod is seafood right? Any good restaurant suggestion?

When I was in that area on vacation many many moons ago there was a musical theater company consisting entirely of college students. They put on a different production each week. If you can find a babysitter for the 2 year old, the rest of your party might enjoy it. I remember that the productions were not very expensive compared to big city productions but they were very good.

As mentioned above, there are a number of beaches in Falmouth. Here's a website that has info on which beaches have public parking (just scroll down a little):
http://www.town.falmouth.ma.us/beach.html
I believe that public parking fee was $10 per car last summer.
I've seen plenty of kids at Old Silver Beach.
I agree with the other posters that Woods Hole (and the restaurants suggested) would be fun for kids. Casual restaurants, boats to watch and there is a small bridge that is occasionally raised.
Also suggest the Silver Lounge for dinner (kids might like sitting in the train car attached to the restaurant); the House of Pizza (pizza, sandwiches, ice cream) and Ben and Bills in Falmouth Center for ice cream. Also Smitty's Homemade Ice Cream.
