Cape Cod- Books update; GTG; and putting "Music" in the heading
Guys; sorry to be so slow responding. Stress and pressure are my excuses.
I bought The Cape Cod Caper, by Margot Arnold (and it's here), The Widow's War by Sally Gunning (and it's here), and Fried Fog and other Cape Cod Yarns (and it's here). Writing this message has made me realise that the other four ("Twelve Sharp" by Janet Evanovich; "Heart of the World" by
Linda Barnes, "Looking Backward, 2000-1887" by Edward Bellamy and "The Outermost House: A Year of Life on the Great Beach of Cape Cod" by Henry Beston; are being sent a week after I leave here. Must fix that....
We arrive on Cape Cod at lunchtime on the 7th and will be there till early on the 21st. We are staying in Brewster. I'd love to meet, if possible. I am coming with a bunch of friends who know about but do not understand my addiction to Fodors, so I suspect it may just be me
Pattie, thank you for your offer. Perhaps we can arrange to meet and I can borrow it from you without the posting.
I'm stopping on the buying before we go front, mainly because my husband is going to whinge anyway, but I intend to buy when I get there. I don't think I'll share that with him just now. I truly appreciate all the great suggestions.
Now thanks for the music information already posted. I could use more, tho'. I guess I'm thinking more about traditional music than Rock or Pop, but I'm open to anything; the more indigenous the better.

Have a great trip! My favorite Cape Cod book was My Own Cape Cod by Gladys Taber, who was a very popular writer in the 1960s and 1970s. Full of stories and photos about Cape Cod, specifically the Orleans/Tonset/Chatham area. You may find copies of it if you browse in any used book shops. I'm re-reading it right now (we are in the very early stages of house hunting around Portsmouth, NH, for when we return to the U.S. and My Own CC is great for getting into a New England coastal mood).
When I was a kid, I fell in love with the *idea* of Cape Cod after reading Betty Cavana's Paintbox Summer, a novel about an apprentice for Peter Hunt (a real life CC artist). It was published years before I was born, but it made me badger my parents into doing a family CC trip when I was 13.

I had forgotten about Gladys Tabor's book- thanks for reminding me BTilke! I have an old dog-eared copy, that if we're able to get together I shall bring along for Sheila.
In Sundays paper, Sheila, were several articles on the Cape, and various towns. if you go to Explore New England.com and search on Cape Cod, if might be of interest lots of information.

I've been completely swamped, and I'm still struggling to see how I can get out of here in less than a fortnight.
Brenda
thanks for the book thoughts. I'm already loaded from the last post, but I'm going to buy some stuff when I get there, so I'll count on finding one or other of those when I get there.
Now, how about music. Any ideas? Or is this a non musicy place?

When you say you are leaving "early" on the 21st - how early?
I just so happen to be flying to Martha's Vineyard that day, with a bunch of local pilots - we are having an XXX dollar hamburger run. (or crab cakes...)
If you are in town I'd love to see you, even if briefly.
