If you have time Canyon De Chelly is pretty interesting. Lake Powell is next to a town called Page which has all the major motel chains-plenty of places to choose from. Or there are a few motels near the lake.

We loved seeing Canyon de Chelly particularly with its difference from Mesa Verde. At Canyon the cliff dwellings are closer to the valley floor and that is where the farming was. At Mesa Verde the dwellings are closer to the top of the mesa where they farmed. Fascinating cultures!

If you go to Lake Powell Bullfrog Marina is a decent spot. You will be mid lake so if you rent a boat you will have lts of choices.I was surprised that the resturant was decent and very fair priced for being out in the middle of nowhere.Coming from de Chelly take the ferry accross the lake.

Hi Neal,

Canyon de Chelly is beautiful and interesting. If you go make sure you have time for one of the guided Indian tours into the valley.

On the way from Arches to Canyon de Chelly you will also pass by beautiful Monument Valley. This is worth some time too.

I hope you plan on seeing Canyonlands National Park while you are up at Arches.
