If it's anywhere near Door County than I'm sure it's beautiful. It sounds like it might be in that neck of the woods. The whole Sturgeon Bay area is fabulous during the summmer. Great restaurants, great wine, beautiful and relaxing scenery, tons of water activities and great shops. If you go, don't forget to try some frozen custard. It's a Wisconsin favorite. Oh, and don't forget to try the cherries!

It's beautiful. I was going to stay there, but even the basic room is in the low 300s after the high tax and
service charge. I don't mind spending
money on a nice room. But a three day stay is close to 4 figures. In the BASIC room. But it's a fabulous place. No doubt about it. Go to canoebay.com.

A co-worker of mine received a gift certificate to Canoe Bay as a wedding gift. Before he left, he said, "I would definitely not pay that much for a weekend getaway!"
After he returned (blissful), he told us there was no question he would return - even at that expensive rate.
He claimed it was the most peaceful and relaxing vacation he'd had in years.
Go!

After reading these posts, I checked out the website. I agree that the pictures and the descriptions seem wonderful. I would base my decision based on whether I was willing to pay that much for the property and the amenities it offers. Canoe Bay states that it is located in Chetek, WI. This entire area is beautiful and remote accomodations are easy to find. I would ask yourself if your priority is the area itself or the luxury of the property.

Thanks for the replys. It sounds more and more wonderful (the $ doesn't scare me).
What are other area attractions (not that we need them since solitude and service is what we seek)?
We would be flying in from Boston. Where to fly to? Minneapolis is closest but would love to go Midwest Express to Milwaukee. How far from Mil?
Thanks.

Fly Midwest. Without a doubt, the best airlines flying. Going to Minn, you may end up on Northworst. Its a drive from either city but you're very likely to arrive in Mpls several hours later than scheduled. Midwest flights are wonderfully reliable!! Chetek is 5-6 hours northwest of Milwaukee but interstate pretty much the whole way so pretty easy driving. Its probably 2-3 from MPLS. (a guess) Looks beautiful...have fun.

Chetek should be about 270 miles from Milwaukee. Milwaukee to Eau Claire (240 miles) is all interstate. Not sure about the remaining few miles. If money is not a major concern, check what smaller Wisconsin cities Midwest Express flies into. Eau Claire, WI would be your closest possibility. Another possibility would be Wausau, WI. That would be a longer drive than Eau Claire, but no where near as long as from Milwaukee.

Milwaukee is about 280 miles from Chetek. Midwest flies into LaCrosse, WI
and Wausau Stevens Point, WI. I think both cities are about 120 miles from Chetek. I would imagine you'll change planes in Milwaukee though. I'd definitely cut the drive in half and go to one of these cities.

If you would like to drive a little, maybe a couple hours, you could go up to Duluth, MN & then drive up the North Shore to Gooseberry Falls & Split Rock Lighthouse...it's extremely beautiful.
Chetek does not have a lot of activites, besides fishing & just enjoying the remoteness of the location & nature.
Canoe Bay looks wonderful...strange place to have such luxury accommadations...enjoy!

We fly into and out of Mpls. lots and most often on Northwest and we have never been hours late - once 1/2 hr. and that's it, so don't let them scare you!! I also second the recommendation to go to Duluth and up the North Shore to Split Rock and even to Grand Marais - it's a really pretty area. Have fun.

My husband and I went to Canoe Bay for our 10th Anniversary a couple of years ago. It is beautiful, private, and very relaxing. The staff is very accommodating, and the food is great. (The meals are one of the highlights.) But, you are right, it is at the high end, which is not something you expect in the middle of Wisconsin. None the less, we felt it was worth it. My advice would be to fly into Mpls-St. Paul, as it is much closer than Milwaukee -- you will save a couple of hours of drive time.
