Cannon Beach and Webb's Scenic Surf

I want you to know about our experience at Webb's Scenic Surf in Cannon Beach, Oregon. We stayed there in part based on your recommendation and their well designed and informative web site. The room was clean and the view spectacular. However, the bookcase was filled with books that we found offensive. Rush Limbaugh was one author and several books had blatantly radical right wing views. One was titled Columbus and Coronado: Conquerors for Christ. Needless to say we commented in their guest book. Next we received a letter in the mail saying we had "trashed" the room--no specifics. My wife and I are both doctors and we were quite offended by both the outrageous book selection and then the hate mail that followed. I just wanted you to know in case you do review the Cannon Beach area again. Our room was #4 there. I'm sure the books remain.

We've never stayed at the Webb motel in Cannon Beach but had considered it in the past. As for their book selection...it seem pretty darn normal for Oregon (and I am an Oregonian myself). You've got to remember that Oregon is not Portland. There is a whole lot more to Oregon than that city and as for the rest of the state; it is very conservative, republican, and Christian. Rush Limbaugh is listened to by most citizens every day in the area we live in and fundamentalist churches are on every other block it seems. That's just Oregon. I don't believe this way, but believe me most of the state of Oregon does (except Portland, which most Oregonians don't think of as Oregon anyways as it seems to be mostly populated by people who moved up here from California in the late 80s or later). The nasty letter to you seems uncalled for from what you say here though.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll give them a call. It sounds like just the place for me. I can't wait to read the
fine book selection and listen to one of
America's great heroes.

I'm with right who is correct. I've been to Cannon Beach and it is a good place to visit and to stay.
