Can anything be posted?

Fodors seems to be on one of its post me not binges. Just trying our of curiosity to see if anything can be posted. Par for the course, I just lost two postings on the European forum; thought I would see if the USA is any better.

Bob, I have had the same experience. The box seems to be having one of its periodic breakdowns. Wonder why.

For Al and all other frustratees.
I have written Fodors and asked WHY?
No answers. I asked some of the Internet experts where I work(ed)if they had any ideas. They really don't because we don't know the operating system or the forum data base system. Hypothetical responses seem to focus on servers that give very low priority to the forums and higher priorities to other in-house needs. When the traffic volume is high, forum users are last in line for a quantum of server time, so we sit and wait.
(Sounds like a Humphrey Bogart line: "They come to Casablanca and the wait and the wait and they wait.") But the failure of a message to post at all and the periodic misplacing of the postings on a given topic is strange and has no obvious answer. The failure to accept a post seems to come when the load is the heaviest. One person hypothesized that the problem might be with Fodors' Internet provider. It gets overwhelmed and misplaces mail packets.

But there are too many unknowns for them to do much more than guess.
One person I asked thinks that the guy who wrote the CGI's to take the posting when you click on the little red half circle doesn't know what he/she is doing.

He traced the company down for me and says that the senior domain is Random House. The administrative outfit has an email address of [email protected]
The phone number is 212 751 2600 if someone has the temerity to call and ask a few questions.

Bob:

Did you read the FAQ for Tavel Talk?

What are the rules of conduct for using the forums?
We want our forums to be a warm and civil environment for the exchange of ideas. To that end, we request the following: Don't be rude or vulgar, don't advertise, and don't post stuff that's not yours. (For the legal version of this, check out paragraph 5 of our subscriber's agreement.) Also, we'd prefer that our forums remain focused on travel -- please find another place to voice your non-travel opinions. Any message or reply that violates these rules will be deleted. Nuff said.

Can I promote my business on your forums?
No, absolutely not. Fodors.com is one of the few major sites where travelers can come for unbiased, independent information about travel. Since our travel writers can't be everywhere at once, it's important that travelers be able to use our forums to get fresh-from-the-field updates and advice from other travelers. Please respect the integrity of Fodors.com and our forums, and find another way to advertise your business.

to the top

What should I do if I see a message that's rude or contains advertising?
If you see a message or reply that violates our rules of conduct, please write to us with the forum name and the title of the post -- we'll look into it. We would prefer that you NOT add further comments to the objectionable message.

Fodors went out of business several years ago and no one remembered about this site - so there are no rules, just write.

If it's non-travel related, contains rudeness and solictation, Fodors will delete it. As they should. This is a travel site.

The one thing I've noticed is that you are not able to post on two states....with my computer, even holding the Alt key and it turning blue...only the first state will be the one that actually post. Anyone else had this problem?

The original, ancient post had nothing to do with rules -- the OP was having trouble getting his posts to appear at all. The rules that Nick quoted would have to do with posts that were removed but Bob's never appeared at all.

Kiki, when you select a state, you are just selecting a keyword to attach to your post for other people to search on, -- you are not posting "on" a specific state. Fodors apparently programmed the board so you can select only one state. Most people just read the basic US board without searching on a specific state.
