Camden area

Plan on spending a few days in the Camden area. Any suggestions on places to see and places to eat would be greatly appreciated. Have heard that the Hartstone is a great place to stay and eat.

I like the little Village Restaurant right in the center of downtown. Be sure to have lunch one day up the road a piece at the Lincolnville Lobster Pound.

Augusta is about an hour's drive, the Maine State Museum there is very interesting and fun. In nearby Hallowell, Slates restaurant is eclectic and good, good bakery too.

Visit the Cellar Door Winery in Lincolnville for a wine tasting. I liked the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, my husband preferred the Owls Head Transportation Museum. Take the auto road up Mt Battie for a fabulous view overlooking Camden harbor. Bring binnoculars and a picnic. The short hike to the Owls Head Lighthouse also has great views.

In Camden, make reservations early for The Cork. We ate there three years and it was a highlight of the trip.

You can find a sample menu here:

http://hometown.aol.com/corkrestaurant/menu.html

The Cork is a winner of Wine Spectator Magazine's Award of Excelence.

It fills quickly so look into it as soon as you hit town (or even before) to make sure you can enjoy it.
