calling us from canada

Hello,
My prepaid cell phone (Tracfone) will not work from Canada.

So, I was wondering what others in US do when they travel to Canada?

Is there a recommended phone card (land) I should buy that I could use in Canada to call the US?

Let me know. Thanks!!

Are you sure it won't work? I've taken cell phones to Canada since 1996 and never had a problem.

I emailed Tracfone and they said my phone is restricted. I have a nokia 1100 (gsm) phone.

I was wondering which land phone cards work from Canada to US.

Also, I will not have access to PCs so no skyping.

Thanks

For a calling card, check out either Sams Club or Costco for a very cheap calling card that will work when you want it to.

If you go to any Asian grocery store in your area, you can get good phone cards for using in US or Canada. They have a huge variety. Only once, I got a card that was not very good since it had echoes. Most often the cards work well for me.
Check a phone book in your hotel or ask the front desk to help you locate an Asian grocery store. I have bought mine from Phillipine store, a Vietnamese store and a Chinese store. One card was only $2 and I was able to talk a good 25 minutes with it.
The phone cards at Costco are very good too, but I am not a member, thus cannot buy there.
Remember-- It is better that you buy your phone card in Canada to call the US to get the best deal.

I have no idea how their rates compare, but I have used Zaptel regularly to buy a card for calling FROM the US all over the world (Dominican Republic, Brazil, Italy, Uganda, etc.) . The same card I use (Flying Colors) works for calling from Canada to the US. Zaptel's customer service is fantastic, and the card is flawless. You don't need an actual card, just the information you get when you sign up.
