We are planning on having a vacation in the US in June 07, please can any sports fans confirm what months basketball, ice hockey and american football are played in the US throughout the year ? Thanks

You might catch the tail-end of the basketball or hockey playoffs. That time of year, mainly baseball & auto racing.

June is high seasons for baseball.

as noted, you might pick up the end of the playoffs for basketball or hockey - but it will likely be down to 2 teams - with only 1 game every couple of games in one city. And ticket prices will be outrageous (minimum $100 for worst seats - if you can get them).

Football is on hiatus (perhaps early training camp - but no games).

You may be able to see women's basketball - and I don;t wish to be critical - but it is NOT the same.

In NYC you may be able to see Rucker basketball (extremely high level non-professional playground games - but professional players do sometimes show up - back to their roots) but it is in a somewhat gritty inner city area - and if you will see "anyone" or not is iffy.

Tell us where you're going and we can aim you at the right baseball teams to see.

In response to your message above, we're planning on going to California in June next year, so i guess watching baseball would be the best bet that time of year, unless we want to shell out a stupid amount of money for bad seats to the basketball and/or hockey?

Exactly, & there are a ton of baseball teams in California, so it should be easy to catch one.

California, baseball in June. Not near the end of the season, should be able to get tickets quite easily unless you are going to a SF home stand. If you plan on SF, then order tickets online when they go on sale or closely thereafter- which is in Spring.

Tickets for almost any sports event can be found on www.stubhub.com - a fan resale site. Check the cities and dates you are visiting for options.

If you go to mlb.com (Major League Baseball) you can then link to any professional team website. They allow you to register (free) and you will get useless emails about the teams but also will be notified when tickets go on sale for next season - anywhere from December on, depending on team.

Most baseball teams do not sell out, except for specific rivals. There are a wide variety of ticket price options, and many baseball stadiums have inexpensive seats that are fine.

Oakland, Angels, Dodgers, San Diego Padre's- you would not need to do pre-sales or anything of that order.

SF Giants is the one team in the CA state area that has dates that go at the beginning of the season and that you would need to to any resale tickets. If you miss opening date sales for all the rest it would not be a deterient. In fact, it would probably be better to wait for your exact best time/ day etc. as that far ahead they can change game times (day to night and vice versa) just for TV broadcasting reasons.

So unless it is SF, I would wait a little and be pickier.

Using gail's link, you can buy single game Giants tickets for multiple dates in August (as well as September). The seating chart is helpful in determining the location of the tickets still available.

I don't think you should be worrying about tickets to the NBA Conference nor NBA finals in California in 2007. There's hardly any chance at all for either the Lakers, Clippers, nor Warriors to advance that deep into the playoffs.

Our pro WOMENS basketball team plays in the summer. (in Minnesota) I would think that might be another possibility in California??

The San Diego Padres (plural, no apostrophe) have quite a few games which sell out quickly.

Basketball - Played from October through April or May.
Ice Hockey - Played from October to May.
Football - Pre-season in August, played from September until January.

Professional Women's Basketball runs from May through September. Baseball is played from April until October.

In California, the Major League Baseball teams are:

San Francisco Giants
Oakland Athletics (the A's)
Los Angeles Dodgers
Los Angeles Angels (they play in Anaheim in Orange County, near Disneyland)
San Diego Padres

You can get to Giants, A's, and Padres games by public transportation.

In California, the Women's Pro Basketball teams are:

Los Angeles Sparks
Sacramento Monarchs

Going to a baseball game is a very American experience and is highly recommended.

If you decide to see baseball games, don't forget the minor league teams. The seats and food are cheaper, you're a lot closer to the field and the players' enthusiam is much greater than the "pros".

A baseball game is a must, but don't totally discount a NASCAR race. I'm not familiar with the California track, but any race is quite the experience. There are also usually smaller races or qualifying on the Saturday and sometimes Friday before a race.
