CALIFORNIA in October

We are first-time visitors to Southern California. I know there are vineyards near San Francisco, but, are there any which are open to tourists in Southern California? Any L.A. related suggestions welcomed.

In southern California there's J. Filipi Vintage Co. in Ontario. In Temecula there's Clos du Muriel, Baily, Filsinger, Callaway and a bunch more.

WINERIES- there are several in the Murrieta area...Murrieta is about an hour to an hour and a half southeast of Los Angeles depending on the traffic.
LAS VEGAS- Las Vegas is abut a 4 hour drive from Los Angeles. I would recommend staying at a hotel on the Las Vegas strip, so then you can just walk around from there. Taking taxi's or paying valet's gets to be too expensive. Some of the better hotels/casinos are the Luxor, New York New York (great rollercoaster), or Excalibur. Ballys has the best dinner buffet in town. Don't miss the volcano eruption and the white tigers at the Mirage, or the pirate show at Treasure Island. One day in Las Vegas is not enough time!!!

I've made this trip several times and a good central location to set up is Redondo Beach. You can stay at the Sheraton Redondo or the Sunrise Motel right acros the street on Pacific Coast Hwy.
Take a nice drive up the PCH towards LA. Stop in Malibu at Gladstone's 4 Fish for lunch or cocktails. A little ways up is the corner of PCH and sunset Blvd. Turn right (left you go into the water) and head through Westwood, BelAir, Beverly Hills keep going in you'll enter Hollywood.
With a decent map you can stop at any attractions you want Rodeo Drive, stars homes, Hollywood and Vine. This day can be as expensive or inexpensive as you want it to be As for art, there are many terrific galleries and museums, horse racing, sports, Universal Studios is a great time-you can make this day as expensive or inexpensive as you want it to be. Enjoy LA
