Can't decide how to get to LGA from the Upper West Side early Saturday morning. Flight is at 8 a.m. - need to be picked up at hotel around 5:30, then pick up daughter further uptown, then head to LGA.

How easy is it to get a cab at 5:30 a.m. on a weekend morning? Am I better off using one of the limo services? If limo, any suggestions? (We used Carmel a few times and had less than satisfactory experiences - does anyone have other limo services they would recommend?)

Quick responses would be appreciated - I'm off email after tomorrow morning.

I share your unpleasant Carmel memories--they once came to get me at the wrong airport. I forget the name, but another car service telephone is all 7s-- 777-7777. I have also used Allstate and been pleased. However, I think you will be able to get a cab at that hour. (Some people are just getting home.)

I agree about Carmel. They came recommended so I used them once. I said I wanted a town car. Then I "upgraded" the town car to a newer one. When it arrived, it was a jalopy with no air conditioning, windows open. I paid them but will never use them again or recommend them. I also agree that a cab should be easy to obtain. I've looked out of my window as early as six a.m. before and have seen hundreds of empty cabs!

I live on the UWS, and it is not a problem getting a cab in the morning - go with the cab!

I always use a car service when leaving the city early (of course, I always have to check out at 4 a.m.). I have used New Family car service for years and been very satisfied. Unfortunately, I'm at work and don't have their number handy, but they should be easily found on the web or in the yellow pages.

I think a cab would also work, but keep in mind they aren't as readily available very early in the morning. You also have to keep in mind the amount of luggage you will have. The luggage problem is the main reason that I use a car service and request a mini-van or station wagon.
