Butler Wash, Comb Ridge, UT
We're planning to do a wander in Utah at the end of the month. I know there is a road up Butler Wash from which you can make hikes to see ruins and petroglyphs. Is this road ok for a 4WD rental car and does it go through from south to north? And I see that there is a road that parallels Comb ridge I think it is called Comb ridge wash road, are there neat sites along this also? Thanks to anyone who has advice.

I could write a very long reply to this question. I spend a lot of time hiking the area you are asking about and my very best advice is for you to just check out my web site about this area. I have all of the easy hikes listed on that site along with a list of books that will also be very helpful. Here is the address:

Here you can see my shots of the most popular ruins. I will tell you though, the road Comb Ridge Wash Road does parallel north to south on the west side of Comb Ridge. Though there are some sites there, you will have better luck going down Butler Wash Road which also parallels the Comb, but on the east side of it. You will find a treasure trove of ruins there.
I also have put up another site with just my most recent photos of the sites and not much text info. Here is the link to that one:

Please give us a trip report when you get back. I am sure you will love it and will want to return again.
You can contact me from that site.

Thanks so much for the site, your pictures are fantastic. We can't wait to go, will see if we can find some of the books you mentioned. We do have one night booked in Recapture Lodge, thanks to Tony Hillerman's Thief of time.

Hi,
Just found your fantastic blogs on Comb Ridge. I am impressed.
I will print and read your blogs before we leave this Friday. I visited some 20 years ago.
Am looking for information on camping in the area. Wilderness is ok. Have lots of experience.
Not sure how this system works so a direct reply to me directly at [email protected].

Reddirddawg,
We did get Canyon Hiking Guide to the Colorado Plateau and In Search of the Old Ones that you recommended in your blog, thanks so much for that tip. We're off tomorrow, will let you know how it goes.

Great emalloy, I don't know if you will see this post while you are on your trip. Since there does not seem to be a way of directly replying to each other through "private messages" on this site. Thought I would just post my email address, that way while you are on your trip if you have access to the Internet, if you have any questions on any ruin sites maybe I can help you out. Hope you have a great trip and let us know how it goes.
