bus fare in Manhattan?

How much is a bus ride in Manhattan? Do you have to have a card or can you pay with cash?

must use exact change or coins. No change is made the cards are handy or keep a roll of quarters on you.

Jimmy:
Fare is $1.50 in coins only. Metrocards are the best way to go though. Buy them in any subway station You get free bus to subway transfer and the ride is cheaper depending on how many rides are on the card. You can also get a $4 Fun Pass good all day for all the rides you want. www.mta.info for all the information you need. Have fun in NY!

Bus and subway fare is $1.50. For bus you must have the exact change in coins. One transfer is allowed when going from a bus to another bus, not to the subway. Manned token booths can be found at almost all subway stops. Best bet is to purchase a Metro Card. They can be purchased at a manned booth or a machine found in almost every subway station. A $4 Metro Card gives you unlimited use of bus and subway service for a day.

I would like to correct RQF. Free transfer is allowed from bus to subway. I do it every day to and from work.

I know there is a free transfer from bus to subway when you use a metro card. Was not aware this transfer is allowed when you don't use a metro card

The free transfers subway to bus are only with a MetroCard.

Sorry rqf, it's been so long since I did not use a metrocard, I forgot about the paper transfer!
