Burlington - Greensborough area
My daughter will be attending college just outside of Burlington for the next four years (hopefully not 5) at Elon University. We will be down in the area several times a year and we are wondering if there is something we should be sure not to miss. Any information is appreciated.

It is a wonderful area. Certainly the premier attraction is the Old Salem area of Winston Salem which is about forty minutes west of Elon on I-40. The North Carolina Zoo is exceptional. It is located in Asheboro, south of Elon.
Perhaps if you listed your interests some of the North Carolinians who post here regularly can suggest some other options.
I hope you enjoy your visits. Elon is an excellent school.

It is Greensboro, just for the record. If you like pottery you have fallen into a little part of heaven just south of Asheboro= Seagrove. Probably a hundred potteries. Think about Christmas!
The beach is only a couple of hours away.
Great shopping in Durham and of course, all the outlets in the world right at Burlington.

It might be cheaper to fly into RDU instead of PTI, so check prices for both.
Need some furniture? Stop by High Point. I'd say it's about 30 minutes to Chapel Hill, the southern part of Heaven. Daughter probably already knows the bar scene in CH, but walk around the campus.
Raleigh is about 1 hour away. Tour the museums and the capital and the State Fair comes in mid-October.
There are some NC State Parks close by. Mainly pretty scenery, but state parks in NC have free admission.

rhy....I went to Elon and it was a wonderful school and experience! I hope your daughter loves it as much as I did! It's been many, many years ago but my parents would drop me off then go to Nags Head (for the peace & quiet I'm sure!
