Jackie,

If you type the word "buffet" in text search and scroll down to "Nevada" in subject search, you will bring up about a hundred postings on this very subject.

Dinner at Mandalay Bay, hands down.

I went to Paris at lunch and wasn't impressed, so Gregory's response makes me wonder if it would be good to give it another try at dinnertime. I'm not a big breakfast eater, so I'm not crazy about any of the breakfast buffets. The one at the Stardust used to be really good (lots of doughnuts, pastries, and other sweet carbs) until they revamped it, turned it into a champagne brunch (with the cheapest, worst champagne I've ever had), jacked up the price, and took away all the pastries.

Food in Vegas is relatively cheap. You really shouldn't have to settle for a buffet. Just sit down and get a made to order meal and you'll be much happier. I've sampled several buffets but now just stick to the real thing. Much hotter and fresher! Ken

Buffets are very inconsistent, what's good one day at lunch might be terrible the next night at dinner. I don't know why but most of them tend to be that way.

The best buffets for the money are the new Gold Coast Buffet (about $8.50 at dinner) and the Orleans Buffet (about $10). The Buffet at the Las Vegas Hilton has just been renovated and is quite good. The more expensive (double the price) buffets at Paris, Aladdin and the Bellagio have good food, but if its not a bargain why choose a buffet? I'd much rather dine at Cafe Bellagio, Mon Ami Gabi at Paris, or The Grand Luxe at the Venetian.

Stay away from buffets....believe it or not, the best meal we had was in the Victoria Room at the Barbary Coast. We ate Chinese there one night and it was so good that we went back the next day for breakfast. It was equally great! Gloria

Why do people eat at buffets?
After the first 25 bites of different foods you can hardly even appreciate the rest.
Is it simple gluttony?
People just feel the need to be able to gorge themselves to unhealthful extremes to satisfy some addictive craving?
Buffets are disgusting, excessive and usually frequented by people who DON'T need more calories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Southwest Airlines to the rescue!!!!

A lot of the buffets in Vegas DO offer poor-quality, cheap food that's been sitting under a heat lamp too long, but there are some exceptions. I think Mandalay Bay's offers lots of really first-class food made by chefs who know what they're doing using quality ingredients. Many of the dishes I've had off the buffet there were so good I would have been thrilled to get an entire meal of them at a sit-down, order-off-the-menu restaurant. Of course, it's fairly pricey as far as Vegas buffets go, but in my mind it's definitely worth it just for the opportunity to try so many things. And no, "Kate Moss," before you attack me I am not overweight or out of shape. Since I watch my diet and exercise the rest of the year, I don't feel guilty about pigging out when I'm on vacation.

I must admit that I like buffets because I am an admitted dessert-a-holic. I believe in the 12 step buffet program.

Step 1. Pay the cashier
Step 2. Order water or tea - no use wasting calories on soft drinks.
Step 3. Try a little tiny bit of each entree and a few side dishes. I like a slice of ham, maybe some turkey if the dressing looks good, a rib or some peel n' eat shrimp. The mashed potatoes are usually instant so I'll pass on those, but the green beans are usually good and so is the cole slaw.
Step 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12
Dessert Dessert Dessert Dessert Dessert Dessert Dessert Dessert DESSERT !!!!!

I like to go to buffets with at least 4 other people so that we can try lots of different desserts. Cheesecake, Key Lime Pie, A Brownie, A Pecan Bar, Apple Pie, Soft Serve Ice Cream with sprinkles, Peach Cobbler, Bread Pudding, you name it and I try it ! ! ! I don't like to throw food away (like I see many people doing at buffets) so I wish the buffets would slice the desserts into smaller servings so that I could sample EVEN MORE of them!

The Paladium Buffet at Ceasar's Palace has always been my favorite. The Mirage is a close second.

Well, if you are into seafood and 'fancier' dishes then Bellagio is tops. For me, it was just a little too refined.

I personally want 4 things in a buffet:

Prime Rib
Shrimp
Crab
Good Desserts.

And for that I like the Mirage - its about $7-8 cheaper than Bellagio which is close to $25.

Breakfast is about the same everywhere...isnt it?

Breakfast is indeed the same everywhere.
They used the same eggs in the greasy, greenish looking scrambled eggs I had at the $1.99 breakfast blowout (eat the breakfast now, the blowout comes later) at the Gold Spike Inn, as in the beautifully prepared and presented eggs Benedict at Bellagio.
No difference whatsoever.
Food is a temporary investment anyway, right?
Why spend a bunch of money on stuffy food bars?

I can tell you where not to go. When I go to Vegas to visit my dad, he insists on taking us to one of the local casino buffets where he always has comps I think the name is Sam's Town. Truly gross. Like being back in school at the high school cafeteria. He also likes the Flamingo's seafood buffet. A little classier in atmosphere, but food is just as inedible.
I have taken him and his wife to some of the best restaurants in town, and they never like the food, they just love the cheap
buffets! Go figure!
