budget accomodations in SF
My husband and I are 'budget travelers'. we see a hotel room as a place to sleep and that's about it. (Don't get me wrong...I'm not saying we will stay in a dump or unsafe area just to save money.)
We will be in SF in September and are looking for a place to stay for two consecutive weekends. Someplace near the heart of things - we are willing to pay more for convenience.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

I stayed at the Columbus Motor Inn in Columbus and would recommend it. It's centerally located, clean and parking is free. There is however no big lobby or pool if those are the things you need. The staff is very helpful and were always very friendly. We could walk to China Town, North Beach, Fisherman's Wharf, and Lombard Street. There is a grocery store a couple of blocks away and public transportation right our your door. We had a room on the 3rd floor with a view of Coit Tower and Alcatraz. It's listed in the AAA book. Check out www.sftravel.com for more comments on Columbus Motor Inn and other budget hotels.

we stayed at the Grosvenor on Pine St.a couple of years ago. the location was excellent...the room was average. they bumped us up to a suite for some reason. I believe it was in the $120 per night range. the only thing i didn't like was that the room did not have AC. we had to leave the windows open and 'frisco can be fairly noisy even at night. they also had a self-serve laundry room which was great.

The San Remo Hotel in North Beach is a great spot for budget travelers who still want a great building with fabulous history, wonderful food, friendly staff and a great location. http://www.sanremohotel.com/

Definitely check out http://www.biddingfortravel.com/ for tips on using Priceline. People have been getting 4-star hotels in SF for around $70/night.

When we stay in S.F. we stay at The Andrews where including a huge continental breakfast buffet and evening glass of wine the rooms for a Queen sized bed are $109.00. Go to www.andrewshotel.com Its on Post Street, two short blocks from Union Street.
