Brooklyn vs NY Botanical Garden(Bronx)

We like to tour botanical gardens and will be in NYC in early October. We had planned on the NY Botanical Garden(Bronx) however a friend just told us the Brooklyn Botanical Garden is "better".We will be touring the garden across from the Museum of the City of NY and walking the Harlem Meer. We'd like to visit one other garden. We have been to Wave Hill and loved it.

Any of you garden folks care to comment, please.

Have you considered Fort Tyron Park and the Cloisters? Not a botanical park but quite a nice riverfront setting.

We visited both this summer. The Brooklyn garden is much smaller and easy to get too. Get off the subway at the Brooklyn Museum stop and there is a new entrance to the garden just to the right of the museum.

The NY Botanical Garden, in the Bronx, is huge. Take the tram around the grounds. The flowers are mostly around the wonderful conservatory. Getting there is a schlep on subway and bus. Take the train from Penn Station.

I suggest the Brooklyn option, not because it is "better," but because it is very good, easy to get to, and can be combined with a visit to a great museum.

To reach the Bronx Botanical Garden, take a MetroNorth Harlem line train from Grand Central Station to the Botanical Garden stop. (Forget Penn Station--happytrails mistyped.)
