broadway shows

We'll be in NYC at the end of July with our 19 year old. We're thinking of trying to get tickets to Jersey Boys and Wicked. Over the years, we've already seen a lot of the other shows--Hairspray, Spamalot, Producers, Lion King, Mamma Mia. Any suggestions of other shows we should consider?

Slava's Snoshow is a real winner!!!

http://www.playbill.com/events/event_detail/5326.html

My wife & I saw it last year and just loved every minute of it and the music is wonderful.

I don't think that TKTS ticket booth has tickets for this show but it's worth every penny.

If you like Sushi, I highly suggest one of the best, Yama and it's a block away from the theatre in Union Square.

Enjoy whatever you end up doing!

Cheers,

Sharkdiver

How about Dirty Rotten Scoundrels? Fun show, and Norbert Leo Butz is excellent!

Join Playbill's email list. Slava's Snoshow discounts are available right now.

Wicked would be #1 for me. I get to see it on tour in a couple of weeks. Yahoo!

Just got home from NY and saw two shows. Jersey Boys was GREAT - upbeat, entertaining, hated when it ended. All of the audience seemed happy throughout the show and left smiling. As a caveat, it is designed for the "over 45" crowd because the music goes back a long way. Also saw Three Days of Rain with Julia Roberts - will post more in my trip report, but must say it was dreary. Julia couldn't save this play. She did a good job with what she had to do with - I just think it was a lousy script and story. City was great.

I think you've picked 2 good ones. Your 19 yr. old might also like Avenue Q. What about a drama (non musical)? Doubt is excellent and I hear the History Boys is also very good.

I think you've made excellent choices! Jersey Boys is definitely one of my new favorites (and don't worry, I'm in my 20s and loved it).

As mentioned, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels would be great, and I would also suggest that you consider The Wedding Singer.

i saw slava's snow show and thought it was somewhat boring. no talking just clowns doing interesting creative acting to music. fun at times but i much rather see a broadway show.

Chicago would be an excellent choice. Both generations should enjoy it.

How about Drumstruck at the Dodger Stages (off Broadway). Our a drama this time, perhaps the Caine Mutiny.

Lieutenant of Inishmore is also fantastic, and hilarious! It's an Irish play, described best as a black comedy. But, be forewarned that it's very bloody! So if you're faint of heart, perhaps it should be skipped

Of the three nights we have available, one is a Monday. Are there any performances that night or are we just out of luck?

Bryant Park has free 'drive in' (actually sit on the grass) movies in the park on Monday nights. The 24th is High Noon and the 31st is A Shot in the Dark. That could be really 'cool' for your teen.
There are several shows that play on a Monday night. Go to www.playbill.com

Currently, there are two shows playing on Monday nights--Chicago and Rent. That could change by July, however.

Festen also plays on Monday nights.

And we're seeing an off-Broadway piece of "fluff" called All Dolled Up on a Monday night -- something about a crossdressing Mafia man.

I just saw Wicked three days ago and LOVED it. I also went wondering if my 19 year old son would like it or if it was a "girl" show - I came out of the show thinking my son would enjoy it too. Have a great time.

just returned from NYC...saw "The Wedding Singer"....if you like the type of humor and attitude found in the movie, you'll like the musical...it's really funny, not a carbon-copy of the movie, has good songs, good, easy fun....

Just returned from Manhattan. Wicked is the number one show. If you can get tickets, take them and be thrilled!
