Probably the "hottest" non musical right now is DOUBT. Everybody claims it is fantastic. I can't wait till next week.

Glengarry Glen Ross
The Pillowman
After the Night and the Music
The Constant Wife
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf
On Golden Pond
Steel Magnolias
Streetcar Named Desire (ends mid June)
Glass Menagerie

We saw "Going to St Ives" last month and thought it was excellent.

"Democracy" was more didactic and heavy handed than I would have liked.

Friends thought "Romance" was very good.

If your son and his girlfriend have not seen "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" or "Glass Menagerie," this would be a perfect time to introduce them to these classics.

The current production of "Streetcar Named Desire" seems to be wanting in important ways.

"Steel Magnolias" and "On Golden Pond" are entertaining, but they are not great plays.

"The Constant Wife" hasn't opened yet, but I saw a production of it at Seattle Rep a few weeks ago and it was delightful.

My first choice would be "The Pillowman."

My sister just got us excellent tickets for Doubt, matinee last week in July. I usually find it is easier to get tickets for dramas than musicals.

Saw Glengary Glen Ross and loved it! Great cast - Liev Shreiber, Alan Alda, Jeffrey Tambor and others.

I saw On Golden Pond and Steel Magnolias and can't recommend either. Of course, it really depends on what you like. I thought both plays were very, very lightweight. Also, saw Pillowman - now that's a heavy play, but the acting is outstanding and we certainly had amazing discussions over dinner afterward. Did not see Doubt, but I've heard its the best from many friends who saw it. Glass Menagerie is getting unkind reviews - from friends as well as critics. Who's Afraid...is getting universally glowing reviews - but for me, its like a bad trip home and I just can't consider that play entertainment one more time.

My choices would be Pillowman, Doubt or Glengarry Glen Ross. Wait to see what is still open post-Tonys.
