I saw Curious Incident in February and did think it was fantastic. Not only did it get acting nominations (and it really, really should win for Best Actor), it got several nominations for the set and lighting design, which I also thought were fascinating and really effective.

Saw Chita Rivera in The Visit today, a stunning, but most unusual musical. Fascinating to me as I used to teach the original play to HS Sophomores. The wealthiest woman in the world returns to her European small town she left at an early age when he lover jilted her. She'll give the struggling town billions if they'll just do one thing. Kill the man who jilted her. Not your usual bubbly tap dancing musical.

I wouldn't "rave" about The Curious Incident! It was unusual and interesting and I'm glad I saw it, but not "rave" worthy.

Does anyone have the link for SueNYC's blog about visiting NYC? I used to have it bookmarked but lost it. I need to contact her.

Thanks!

emd3 - post tomorrow - Nirbaha was seriously one of the most intense theater pieces I have seen in over 50 years of theater going (I started very young). Am exhausted from it and a very beautiful day.

An interesting read. I'm not much of a Josh Groban fan but like his reference to Miss Barbara Cook -

Well here's my post. You gave a lot more details above. It is seriously intense and important theater. Just go more prepared than I was.

If Dr. Zhivago was on anyone's list as it was on mine for next Wednesday, scratch it. It will close this Sunday.

You can get the app for tickets which shows what's available. Lately? Almost everything, from Hedwig to On the Twentieth Centuty, to On the Town, to Gigi. Or Curious Incident or Its only a Play are good options. The best idea is if you want a play rather than a musical there's a very short line to the west side of the booth rather than the huge lines on the east side.

Skylight is like watching a master class in acting. Carey Mulligan and Bill Nighy are amazing together. It's a LOT of rapid fire dialogue and it all seems so natural, yet so full of fire and energy. Hard to explain, but it was simply wonderful! Here were two actors who must be working so incredibly hard at their craft, yet not once are we aware they are "working" at it -- it all flows like silk.

My May 2, 2015 Independent Bookstore day covered a lot of ground before I went to see Nirbhaya . It doesn't really make it as a trip report but remember this day next year whatever city you are in....

I'm going on Memorial Day weekend and doing a real theatre blitz. I have good tickets to Skylight, Curious Incident and Kinky Boots (which I've never seen). I live in DC and we get a lot of good companies doing touring road shows of the big musicals, and I don't mind if there isn't a big star on Broadway that I really want to see, anyway--but for some reason, DC isn't on the Kinky Boots touring schedule next year, so I booked that for my third.

I could have gone to the audience and really like Helen Mirren, but I just really wasn't that enamored of the subject matter to make that one of my choices.

I was considering getting tickets to Heidi Chronicles, sure am glad I didn't pick that show as it closed early. When I was booking my tickets, it still had dates open for that weekend. It was supposed to run through August.

Heading over to The St. James in a bit to see "Something Rotten." Looking forward to it. Nice night for a stroll.

We loved it! Well done in all aspects - performances, storyline, music and dance.

I think this is a must see for theatre lovers. Sadly, we don't get to many actual Broadway shows ON Broadway, though we do often see road company productions. The references to many other shows, worked in to the play, is done so cleverly and really makes the show. And the use of current topics makes this a great all around show.

Well, I guess we're in the Fodor's minority so far in not liking Something Rotten. We will agree, however, that the references to other shows was clever.

Howard, you can add that to Wicked on your list of " shows everyone liked but us". Seriously though, I've read a lot of blogs from people who didn't really care for Something Rotten.
