I have stayed at Basin Harbor and have attended many functions there. It was built in the mid 19th Century and still has its original hotel, plus rustic cottages of various sizes. It has been operated by the same family for many years and is definitely family oriented, with activities for all ages. Regarding "Dirty Dancing", yes it does have that feel, though a step above the resort in the Poconos that was portrayed in the movie. The location on Lake Champlain is outstanding. It can be pricey, though....

Thanks for that Colbeck - it shall go on the short list.
Wow Zootsie thanks for all the info - I shall start looking into those areas tonight after work. Sounds absolutely beautiful.
I've read up on Burlington & that is going on our short list too.
Thanks for all your help, Samantha

I always thought Dirty Dancing took place in a Poconos resort (Eastern New York state) -- but those places are lost in time now.
There are some very nice family resorts in VT and NH -- similar to in the movie, but without the big dinner shows. You could find something around Lake Winnipesaukee (NH), for example.
This would be more like staying in a lodge or cabin than renting a house, though. Do you want suggestions along those lines?
