Breakfast in Chelsea
Will be taking DD to college next month in NYC, staying in Chelsea (FIT) area. I have suggestions for lunch and dinner in NYC, but need ideas for breakfast in Chelsea. THere will be 5 of us, 2 teens and one fussy adult. Diners, bagels, etc?

I agree with MF but Le Pain is in ABC Carpet.
For excellent pastries and croissants Le Bergamonte on Ninth Ave and about 19 Street.
Please also note there a lot of bad reaturants in that area with the Coffee Shop high on the list.

Adu - MFNYC is correct - Le Pain Quotidian opened at 7th Ave and 17th Street. The service is erratic at best but the food is good.
There is alsoi n the Chelsea Market: Cafe 202 it for brunch and Sarabeths for (expensive, tiny, delicious) breakfast pastries. And the Ronnybrook Milk bar. ignore the bad bagels in the CM.
The WONDERFUL Le Bergamote on 9th Ave and 20th Street.
Around FIT is a bit of a wasteland - walk down to the Whole Foods at 7th Ave and 24th Street for a good breakfast bar/lunch take out (it's crazy busy there after 12 noon).
The is a coffee shop/diner on the north side of 23rd street between 6th and 7th closer to 7th avenue - perfectly adequate. A couple of little diner/coffee shops on 7th around FIT - nothing great.

Thanks for the ideas. I figured a few mornings before move in we might want to grab somethng easy to eat in the neighborhood. We are staying in apartments on 22nd between 8th and 9th I beleive. I may ask more as the time nears...6 weeks from today!

It's a nice neighborhood - a real mix of ethnicities, gays, students, families, everybody - although the rampant building/development has made the middle classes the minority.
22nd between 8th and 9th is a great block - that whole stretch is wonderful at Halloween - the families in the townhouses all the way down to the park at 10th Avenue do wild outdoor decorations and sit on their stoops giving away candy - all the neighborhood kids dress up and trick or treat. And I mean elaborate - half the people are artists/designers and they get REALLY into it. Lots of fun.

Glad to hear its a nice neighborhood. Actually, we are just renting the apartments (VRBO) for a week while daughter moves in to FIT. I plan to visit and occaisionally do a w working vacation in NYC so may stay there again if all goes well.
I'm trying to remember the name of a little restaurant we happened on last trip to Chelsea. It was on a corner...had a few outside tables as well. Very small. We had a great brunch. I think it was owned by two young men. I know that probably describes a lot of places but does that sound familiar? I'd love to go back and lost the name of it.

That IS almost every place around here! Might be Le Zie 2000 - 7th Avenue and 20th St. - a few tables out front, very good Italian/Venetian food. They do a nice brunch. The chef Robert Passon was the original chef there .. but it could be several other places too . . .

I just remembered something about this place - there was a big poster outside advertising entertainment..it was (at that time anyway) a "Drag" singer. I asked if they had evening entertainment - yes. Maybe I missed a small stage inside.

Sorry that doesn't really ring a bell for me . . but I had an errand over by "your block" just now and realized for your original question, that there is a Murray's bagels right there - on 8th Avenue between 22nd and 23rd. Murrays is condsidered to be one of the better bagel stores in NYC.
There is also a Jamba Juice and a Starbucks (of course) and a good little coffeshop/diner called the Venus, I think on 8th and 23rd.
