Eggs, bacon, hashbrowns. Yum. Wrap them in a tortilla and you've got the perfect breakfast taco.
Sorry trippinkpj, didn't mean to be glib, but honestly and truly, if you ask 100 people on the street in Austin what is a traditional breakfast, 101 will tell you breakfast taco.
There is an IHOP at 1st St near I35, and another on Mopac at Barton Springs. For the life of me I can't think of any other 'diner' type breakfast places.
The absolute best breakfast in Austin, in my opinion, is the Sunday buffet at Fonda San Miguel, interior Mexican (not TexMex).

I vote for Magnolia Cafe. They have the best pancakes in town, as well as any traditional or non-traditional breakfast food you could want. There will probably be a wait for a table, but they stay busy for a reason.

Perfect P_M. That's exactly what I wanted. We'll go to Magnolia.
J62- You may not of noticed but I had another post (or two!), asking for Tex-Mex and got some great suggestions including breakfast. I guess "traditional" wasn't specific enough. LOL.

FYI, we went to the following for breakfast:
* South Congress Cafe: great! Migas and yummy potato, with smoked gouda, pancakes.
+ Maria's Taco Xpress (on south Lamar)- Good breakfast tacos in a casual/ order at the counter setting.
We didn't get to Kerbey Lane this time, but I had lunch there last year when I visited.

You'll love Magnolia. Both locations have excellent food, but I prefer the one on Lake Austin Blvd. It's surrounded by big trees and it's near the river.
