Boulder, Utah, Burr Rd, Long Canyon
I have found very little information on this slot canyon.
I'm looking for a short, relatively easy hike that takes me into a slot canyon.
This appears to be quite close to the start of Burr Rd on the Boulder end.
Has anybody done this?

I don't know of a true slot canyon at the beginning of long canyon. However, after you descend down the road into the canyon proper a quarter mile or so you will notice a slot in the canyon wall on the left. This is a very short "slot" -almost like a narrow cathedral area which is very beautiful to walk down in (100 ft. or so).

I recommend that you travel to the BLM visitor center in Escalante, at the west end of town on Rte.12. They have all the information that you would need for the various slot canyons in the Hole in the Rock Road area (graded gravel road) which starts 5 miles east of town center off of Rte.12.

Westbound,
BLM sent me their visitors' package.
I'm trying to keep the dirt road driving to a minimum (if possible). Also, from the descriptions, some of the slot canyon hikes are a combination of too long and/or too difficult.
I think I'll try to leave the climbing and scrambling to those somewhat younger.
I'm not looking for the "mother of all slot canyons". I just want to experience walking thru a canyon where both sides are pretty close together and straight up.
I'll keep looking or waiting for ideas.

Peter,
Aren't photos great!!!
This may be just what I'm looking for. It appears you were there.
Is this the one about 11 miles down Burr Road, quite close to the road and just on the North side? More of a 15 minute walk than an extended hike?
Are you able to walk in/thru it?

That picture is of a narrows, not a true slot. Myer, I did the Spooky slot, off of Hole in the Rock Road. The road is graded, 24 miles down the road is Spooky, Peekaboo slots, a 1 1/4 mile easy hike. Spooky gets narrow to 15 inches. An awesome experiance!

I just spoke with BLM Escalante.
Their opinion is that Peek-a-Boo and Spooky are pretty difficult. Long Canyon is a real slot canyon and very close to the road.
If I want to drive about 30 miles over to Willis Creek, that's really nice.
Willis Creek is on the way to Kodachrome Park.
Depending how the timing goes I may end up in that area.
Anybody been to Willis Creek? The photos look really nice.

My apologizes for claiming Long canyon is not a slot. I looked back at the picture after I posted and it is indeed a slot further in. I live in the east coast and I'm not aware of the current weather pattern, with that said, flash flooding is thee most dangerous event that could happen in a slot. Rain a day or even 2 prior, depending on the drainage could and will leave high water making the slots impassable. Which ever you decide to go, the best of luck and enjoy. Slot canyons are truly a photogenic and unique experience.
