Boston to Hartford

We are driving from Boston to Hartford on Sunday Sep 15. What would be a scenic route to take and visit some interesting places? How about going via cape cod?

Via Cape Cod? That makes aas much sense as going via Maine. Get out your map -- CT is west of Boston, and the Cape is southeast. Just how scenic do you want things to be? How much time do you have? If you go via northern VT you'll see some foliage.

Northern Vt is even further out of the way than Cape Cod.
Hope on the Mass Pike and get off in Sturbridge-visit Old Sturbridge Village.

Duh, xx, that was supposed to be a joke, like, as long as you're willing to go in the wrong diection anyway, why don't you go WAY out of your way. Get it?

SamIAm,

General observation: many posters here take everything said absolutely literally. There is no such thing as sarcasm or tongue in cheek. For Pete's sake don't try and crack a joke! They won't get it and will be all over you like the proverbial cheap suit.

Oh, the thickheads here don't bother me, I'm willing to stick my neck out in order to amuse the ten percent who get it. Perhaps if I had suggested going via Montreal . . . ?

Simsbury CT is very charming and is between Boston and Hartford. We stayed at the Simsbury 1820 House once for a wedding. It was a very beautiful inn.

You could also check out the new hotel at Mohegan Sun casino. Week day rates are fairly reasonable.

Sue,
You've got a few choices:
1. I90 to Sturbridge to I84 to Hartford
2. I90 to I395 to I95 to 91N
3. I90 to I395 to US6W
4. I90 to I395 to CT9W

1. Besides Sturbridge and the village, nothing of note
2. You can hit the casinos and see the south coast
3. ???
4. ???

I would agree with the earlier posts, that the easiest way to get to Hartford is to take the Pike west to I84 and a nice place to stop would be Sturbridge Village. Lots of restaurants in the area and a few antique shops. The quaint towns you are probably looking for are abit further west than Sturbridge.

I would get a map of the area and pick some roads just off the beaten path. The colours have not started to change yet here in NYC, but they may have started in Mass so it should be a pretty trip.

Have a fun time.

Is the pike-to-sturbridge-to-84 the best we can do here? Sturbridge is a nice place but we can do better.

Okay, here's a better route for scenery and intereting places:

Take rt2 west from 128. You'll go through Lexington/Concord which has lots of American history and literary history. Follow Rt2 all the way to Greenfield. Take route 5 South to Hartford. You'll pass through Deerfield, Northampton and lots of other quant towns. Deerfield is old and quaint with many museums and yankee candle. Noho is probably the funkiest town in Mass. Once you get near Springfield hop onto 91 South down to Hartford.

Mark hits the mark -- his routing is the best. Break out your map and study it.
