We have an international flight out of Boston next month. We would like to check our bags with Lufthansa, then take a cab for a late lunch around 4 PM...any suggestions?? Woould rather not do Italian as we are going to Italy....

What time do you need to be back at the airport; what time is your flight?

There isn't much around the airport, which is East Boston. Better options would be back in the city, and you're better off taking the T (ie, subway) than a cab... unless cost is not a concern to you.

One option is take the Silver Line T from the airport to South Station. From South Station, it's a 10-min walk to Chinatown - lots of places to choose from.

Or, a 3-block walk from South Station to Kingston Station, where I recently had a fairly good meal.

Another option is take the shuttle from the terminal to the Blue Line Airport Station, ride 2 stops to Aquarium, and eat at Sel de la Terre on State Street.

Legal Seafood is right at the airport .. and several downtown Boston .. There are all the usual Morton's .. Ruth's Chris ... Abe & Louie's .. Grill 23 .. Not sure what type of food you after .. The South End has some wonderful restaurants as well .. Tell us what type of food you prefer .. and how much time you have ....

don't forget the water shuttle, or water taxi! I believe you can take the water shuttle from the airport to Long Wharf, near Faneuil Hall. Lots of good places around there to eat lunch. Maybe Kingfish Hall (I admit, I haven't been there in a long time, but it used to have very good seafood).

You could also try Meritage at the Boston Harbor Hotel if you want something pretty upscale.

I also like Sel de La Terre. I wonder if the water taxi will take you to the wharf near the Aquarium. It might...worth looking into.

To elaborate on mahs: there is a Legal Seafood in Terminal C outside security. You will be checking in at Terminal E, a short walk away.
If you want to go into Boston, take a cab but beware of getting back in time for your flight. Many restaurants in easy reach once thru the tunnel.

Looks like the Water Shuttle goes to Long Wharf, which is right by the Aquarium. It's faster than the Blue line T, I suppose, but is more expensive ($6pp).

I've eaten at the Legal C Bar (as mentioned above, outside security in Terminal C). The food isn't that memorable really. So, if you've got the time, I'd suggest going into town. But all depends really how much time you really have!

Be sure to find out how early you can check yourself and luggage in on Lufthansa from Logan - checking massport site, they do not have all that many flights from Logan and in that case sometimes check-in personnel are not actually at desk all day.

There are some very good ethnic restaurants in East Boston.
Angel's Cafe is an authentic Mexican restaurant about a 10 minute walk from the Airport Subway stop and Saigon Hut, an inexpensive Vietnamese place, is about a 15 minute walk from the same stop.
The park behind the subway stop at the airport is very pleasant as well.

Both are about a 5 minute cab ride from the airport.

Santarpios, although known for Pizza, has excellent Kabobs. it is also about a 5 minute ride from the airport.

If you go to any of these places you will avoid the traffic and time it takes to go in and out of Boston.

tkt, just to clarify, you mean Angela's for Mexican, not Angel's, right? I've not been but I've heard great things about it.

yes I mean Angela's, the one on Lexington Street in Eastie, you must go, but try to go at an off time.

What day of the week are you traveling? You do realize that 4 pm is start of rush hour traffic for many Boston/Cambridge commuters (whether it be the car traffic OR those taking the "T").

When you're deciding where to go, make sure you have sufficient time to leave and get back into Logan.
