I live in Boston, and we stayed at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel on our wedding night several years ago. We found it to be a charming, old fashioned, elegant hotel. You can check out the website at http://www.bostonparkplaza.com/. I don't believe it has a pool. According to the website, it does have a fitness room, though. The hotel is not far from the Boston Common and Public Gardens. It's a great location, walking distance to most attractions in the city, including the theater district and many restaurants. Unless it has changed, there is a charming tea room in the lobby. I hope this helps.

We stayed there over Thanksgiving a couple of years ago. We were given a corner room, with windows on 2 sides which was nice. It's a great location. Don't remember looking for a pool as it was November. We were able to get a great AAA rate.
The rooms might be considered "old fashioned" but certainly not "run down". It was a very charming room.
Be sure to stop by the Ritz Carlton nearby for a drink in their great bar.

I think Legals lost their lease with the Park Plaza and they have either moved out already, or are in the process... but they were just supposed to be moving across the street. Pignoli's is a terrific place. You're also very close to the theatre district (such as it is) and several comedy clubs. You might want to see Blue Man Group or Shear Madness both of which are very funny and have been running forever.

We love the Park Plaza. Last time, they mixed up our reservation and gave us a HUGE room - about the size of the entire downstairs of my house with TWO full bathrooms, overlooking the small park in the back. The cocktail lounge is gorgeous and comfortable. Agree that the location near the Boston Common is wonderful. Also recommend the Ritz for drinks, Pignoli, and Legal Seafood - they've moved to across the street from the hotel.

We had an atrocious experience:
A grimy, dreary room complete with dead bugs, hardly any water pressure in the showers (no tub), holes in the ceiling and bathroom walls -
the rate had been increased from the discount rate we had obtained from "Accomodation Express" to $259. After I complained about the room's condition it was reduced by 50%, but the disgusting experience remains.
I recommend caution in dealing with this hotel.

This thread has me curious. I'd like to hear from more people who have visited the hotel recently. I wonder if they've gone downhill for some reason.
My experience at the Park Plaza was over 10 years ago, during my first visit to Boston with my family. Obviously, I got a good impression of the city (I MOVED HERE!), and my hotel experience was part of the positive experience. I know that it remains a little bit less expensive than the rest of the hotels in the vicinity; this is one of the reasons for its popularity.
I recall dining at the Legal's Seafood in the same building, and I believe that it did move about one block away.
Let's here some more testimonials from people who've stayed there during the last few months; I'd hate to hear that it consistently is providing poor service.
