yk,I guess, I'm just used to walking that hood!

To avoid getting taken for a ride, have the cab driver take Surface Rd to Kneeland/Stuart and drop you off at the corner of Stuart and Charles. Walk across the street to your hotel. Otherwise they will spend another few dollars circling around to drop you at the doorman.

It's definitely walkable if one's not dragging luggage (I walked from South Station to Radisson to meet my friends.) The problem is getting through the pedestrian traffic on Kneeland: one side you've got Chinatown, the other side you've got NEMC. Both sides are plenty busy all day long during the week, and I don't think all the sidewalks have ramps for suitcases. Add that to the construction of W hotel at Kneeland and Stuart, it's just a mess there to walk with luggage during weekday office hours.

The OP is from Australia, so it's just around 8am their time... I don't think the OP stayed up all night following this thread.

but of course yk

I only found it curious, as I searched to see if I could help them in any other way regarding their trip and found only two similar posts regarding transportation from the airport. Boston and Chicago.

I simply hoped to offer other suggestions, but found it a bit odd that no other inquiry was made.

OP did respond back after I offered a suggestion. We may have scared him off completely - if it takes 24 replies just to give suggestions on how to get from Logan to Stuart Street, imagine planning the rest of the trip.

Oh you are all just too good. What a wealth of information you have given me. I really do appreciate it and can't wait to analyse everything that has been said. so very very helpful.

Actually I am a she and you are right - the rest of the trip is just as complicated. Independent travel is such fun!

You certainly haven't scared us off.
Thanks a lot.

Thankyou yk for the Silver Line suggestion - good one! And to gyppielou for the Surface Road hint to cnr Charles St. That is the option I like best.

Gippielou you have recommended some eateries and I am grateful for that too - as I said earlier our dollar is disgustingly low and as our trip is very long we have to watch the spending. Any further advice you might have as to inexpensive dining would be appreciated - and for things we should do with 3 days in Boston (actually 2 and a half days allowing for airport arrival day).

Our itinerary after Boston is Chicago for 3 days and then Las Vegas with a trip to the Grand Canyon and then San Francisco and then home.

Thanks again for all the help.

If you like Chinese/Asian food, you'll have plenty of cheap options in Chinatown, which is about 3-4 blocks from your hotel. Places I like in Chinatown are:

No frills Cantonese - Hong Kong Eatery
Slightly upscale Cantonese - Peach Farm
Taiwanese - Taipei Cafe or Gourmet Dumpling House
Vietnamese - Xinh Xinh
Malaysian - Penang
Korean - Suishaya (I haven't been but my sis-in-law likes it)

For breakfast, Mike & Patty's is nearby.

So glad we could help and glad your still here. Some times people post and never return, hence my previous comments.

Bring your walking shoes! Walk the Charles and the Commons and Gardens. Take a swanboat ride and stroll Charles Street and the Rose Kennedy Greenway and visit the Northend. If other restaurants don't entice you - you could grab a cheese pizza at Regina's in the Northend. Locals know to bypass the tourist line and head to the bar if there are any seats.

I notice that you have all city destinations. If you have the energy and not a lot of jetlag, you might consider taking the commuter rail from NorthStation to Rockport for a seaside adventure for your second full day, if weather permits. Stroll the town and shops, grab a lobster in the rough and train back to Boston for dinner in the Northend.

Vegas - if you are on the strip- I have stayed at the Bellagio. They have some wonderful things to see - the glass ceiling, the everchanging garden. During the day it is swamped with tourists, but late at night, after dinner, strolling thru the property is just fantastic.

Well that is all very helpful Gippielou, and I will print out all your tips for my husband to read.

About the city destinations - I really wanted to pick up a car in Boston and spend some time exploring the countryside. However we will have been driving for several weeks in Spain, France and Germany and I couldn't persuade my husband to do any more driving. That will have to wait until next time.

We are really looking forward to seeing Boston - quite a few people have told us that it is a terrific city.

Thanks very much for your advice.
