Boston, MA Daytripper
I have already been to Boston a few times. Visiting again for the weekend. Deciding on one of the following: Science Museum, Aquarium, or the Basketball Hall of Fame. Please help. (Then add... does anyone have any other suggestions for "don't misses" that I may have missed in the past?)
Thanks

Hi Ramona,
FYI, the Basketball Hall of Fame is in Springfield, which is about a 1.5-2 hour drive from Boston. I havent been in a long while, but do know they have a new building there-I remember the old one as being small and cramped.
You could visit the Aquarium and then walk around the North End, and stop in one of the many restaurants or coffee houses for dinner/lunch/or what-have-you.
Have you walked the Freedom Trail? If not, then it's a "must do" IMO.

I didn't realize the bball hall of fame was that far out. The aquarium may be the way to go.
Freedom trail? I think I drove that route. But tell me more.
I have seen Boston Common, Tea Party site, Fanuel Hall, some other shopping areas, Cheers/Bull and Finch,
Other suggestions?

I highly recommend the Isabelle Stewart Gardner museum right across the street from the Museum of Fine Arts. The MFA is an excellent place to visit for a few hours. Then walk over to the Gardner Museum for something different.
The Gardner is a 15/16th Century Italian Villa reconstructed inside a Boston brownstone building. The courtyard is filled with beautiful flowers and the galleries are all excellent.
After a while you can enjoy a really nice lunch in the Gardner Museum restaurant.
Yes, the HOF is at least 2 hours away and is worth a stop if you're in that area.
The Fogg Museum at Harvard in Cambridge is also very good.

Science Museum is a great hands on place, especially if you have kids in tow and can watch their expressions as they explore the wonders of what they are experiencing. However, adults enjoy the hands on experiences just as much as the kids.
If you'd like to see the historic side of Boston, go for the Freedom Trail walk which takes you past all the places from the history books as well as the USS Constitution and Bunker Hill. Put on your walking shoes, its a long stroll, but you can take your time and spend a day of it. Lots to see and do along the way and places to pop into if you choose.
Call to see if the duck tours are still running; they close for the season soon, but I don't know the date. Try www.boston.com for some information.
The Gardner Museum and MFA are not in downtown Boston but a trolly car ride away.

As a Bostonian we did the tourist thing today.. we took a Duck Tour.. I can't tell you how surprised I was at the knowledge of the guide, the neighborhoods we visited, the length of time in the Charles River and the quality of the tour..I now admit it is a MUSTeven for us Bostonians. Because of the weather the clear plastic curtains were down snd the vehcle seemed to have heat.. Ticketscsn be bought over the internet...or they do have a few (no rush today with the rotten weather). After the tour you might want to go back and revisit some of the areas.
