If you take the other poster's suggestion and go to Filene's and Macy's in downtown crossing, be sure to check out Filene's basement. Great bargains to be had if you hit them on the right day.

The Aquarium is one of my favorite attractions, and worth considering. If you go there, don't miss the sea lions' show.

Just a word of caution about the MBTA visitors pass for the subway: It's quite pricey for what you get. Before buying one, remember that Boston is a great walking city and that a ride on the subway costs just $1. So a one-day visitors pass for $6 might not be a good buy.

I believe the MFA and Gardner museums are the best things in Boston.

Lunch at the Gardner is nice.
