Any suggestions for a hotel near the Common and/or Swissotel in downtown Boston with a little more reasonable rates?

for two people the rates are between $139-$700 per night. if you can get away from the downtown area you'll do much better, Other areas such as Brookline, Neponset,Newton, Waltham, Cambridge, Somerville, Brighton, Medford, Malden or even EAST Boston can save you alot. AAA approved hotel/motel will give a discount of 10% off the listed prices. Mostly side of the road, hardly or no amenities places are your best bet and when in doubt about the area the police department is willing to help. They let you know just what kind of an area your in. Good luck!!

As previous poster mentioned, any hotels in downtown Boston are going to be expensive. But, it is so much more convenient to stay downtown for sightseeing, etc. than outside town. So, weigh convenience against cost. Also, check with chain hotels since they may be running some specials; also, Holiday Inn could be cheaper.

Philip, a recent posting to this board noted that there is a brand new Wyndham Boston located on Broad St. in the financial district. That poster was able to get a $139 rate as part of the hotel's opening "get acquainted" program. You may want to contact that hotel to see if the program will be active for the period you will be in town.

Just got back from Boston, We stayed at the Hampton Inn in North Andover. $90 per night with cont breakfast. We went to the train station in Lawerance, and rode the "T" into down town, $7 for two oneway. It was very easy to do, and alot cheaper then staying downtown. We took the Beantown Trolley all over town. $20 per person, but well worth it.You could get on/off any of their scheduled stop sights.

Living in the Boston area. I don't often stay downtown. Of course, the Ritz is right at the Commons. I am sure it is very expensive. Nonetheless, search the net for their best price. It might be worth the stretch if it is not too high. Also, if you would consider a suburb I would suggest the Hilton at Dedham. You can walk to the Train Station (may a one to two minute walk) and be in Boston in less than 20 minutes. It is easy, inexpensive and very convenient. The Hilton is a nice hotel. I am sure they run specials. Again, call asking for the best rates. They have a very nice dining room, pool, execise facilities, tennis, etc. They also have a van that I am sure is available to pick up and drop off at the airport,etc. Good Luck.
