Hi,
I'm going to Boston in late July and I'm trying to find a budget hotel that's clean and safe and either near the historical sites or else close to public transportation that can get me to the sites quickly and easily. I'm trying to keep the cost to around $100 a night and the recommendations I've seen on other threads are too expensive. Thanks!

if you bid on Priceline, you should have no problem winning a hotel that meets those criteria.

I m not sure about "no problem" - but the only chance you have finding such a hotel is thru Priceline. There are no true budget hotels near sites in Boston - for the simple reason that land is at a premium

Priceline won't work for me because I must be able to have a room with two beds. Priceline doesn't give a selection option. What about a hotel that isn't right in the heart of things, but has good access via the "T"?

I stayed at a Holiday Inn in Brookline in 2002 - right at a T stop and I thought the location really wasn't bad. I have no idea what the price is now booking it retail - I did get it through Priceline, and I did get two beds - though you are right, you can't guarantee that with Priceline. You can call the hotel after a successful Priceline bid and request two beds; sometimes the hotel will guarantee that request, sometimes they add it as an option when you check in - you best bet being to check in as early as possible the day you arrive.

Check out Boston b&b's - I saw accomodations there (not bed and breakfasts, just a studio apt) from $135, which was the best price we found for the area.

Andrew, I checked out your hotel, but it's over $200 with taxes, thanks anyways though. Ruckus, thanks for the suggestions, I've been checking out guest houses and will dig further. If anybody else has suggestions, they'll be most appreciated.

Biddingfortravel lists only 3 hotels in the Priceline Brighton/Brookline area, one of which is the Holiday Inn; the other 2 are chains which also will have plenty of rooms with 2 beds.

The most recent win for the Holiday Inn was for April 8 and the winner paid $51.

We are traveling to Boston in June and booked a room at the Hotel Indigo in Newton. While it's not $100, it was a great find at $123 (plus tax). There is a T stop adjacent to the hotel. They do have rooms with 2 dbl beds. Good luck!

tdmort, thanks for the suggestion, but I seem to be doomed. The rates for my dates at that hotel are $179 (plus tax). Ugh!!! I'm surprised I'm having such a hard time. The Redsox aren't even in town for my dates!

You might check out www.hotwire.com. Similar to priceline, in that you aren't given the name of the hotel until you purchase it, but you're given a set price and don't bid on it. Also, you can specify number of people in the room...so if you said 3 people, I'm sure you'd get 2 beds. I've had very good luck with this site & use it quite often. I'm also a huge fan of www.vrbo.com, vacation rental by owner. They have quite a few listings that are apartments for less than $179...some lower than $100. I've never had a bad experience and we have used vrbo multiple times. I would only consider places that have photos posted, and I also pay attention to the response of the owner (in terms of timeliness as well as friendliness). Also, just fyi, I've found that owners who list a "minimum night" requirement are often happy to rent for a shorter time period if it's available. Good luck!

We're 2 middle-aged women staying in the Hostel International Boston hostel in August.Good location. Much cheaper. Not for everyone but okay by us.
