Boston College Tour

We're heading to Boston to tour Boston University, Boston College, Northwestern and Emerson with two teens. Any suggestions on a centrally located hotel that's reasonable? We'd prefer to take mass transit while in town. Thanks for your input.

That's Northeastern, lol, Northwestern is in Chicago.

I would suggest staying somewhere in the Back Bay area, maybe near the Prudential Center would be easiest to get around. You can walk from there to Northeastern and BU, and take the train all around the city from there.

Check Priceline for options and prices.

Have fun Boston is a great town, and your teens will love the college feel of Boston.

Fenway-

Staying on the Green line would be the best as all these colleges are on Green Line. In Back Bay around Copley or Prudential Center would be good. Note that the Green Line splits up into B, C, D, & E as it goes out of the city.
BU is on B
BC is on C
NU is on E
Emerson is on any Green.
Go to www.mbta.com for more info regarding the T.

Or you can choose to stay near Fenway (no pun intended).

Newbury Guest House is in the 200 block of Newbury St. It is centrally located, has a great "Boston" feel, is reasonably priced, includes breakfast and is near mass transit.

We recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Cambridge (Mnsg. O'Brian?) a short walk to the Lechmere station, which is at the "northern" end of ALL Green Lines. Since the trains all start here, it's almost impossible to NOT get a seat. The Holiday Inn had an OK free breakfast buffet, which helps defray expenses, as well as free parking. Felt plenty safe walking back to hotel at night. NOT centrally located, but good for transportation.

The HI/AYH hostel on Heminway has family rooms available -- you're almost in the "student ghetto", so maybe would be more like a true college experience for your kids. www.bostonhostel.org
