Boston at the Boston Common Hotel

Does anyone know anything about this hotel? they have parking across the street & one package seems to offer a decent price for a stay & park. It is supposed to be close to transportation & offers a Continental Breakfast. I have also read that it is old, small & not very clean. We can handle the old & small.

I think there have been one or 2 reviews here in recent years and they were okay. Just note that the hotel isn't really at the Boston common; instead, it is in Back Bay Copley area. Having said that, it's still a good location.

This is the old John Hancock Hotel and Conference Center. The Google reviews are awful. Your mileage may vary.

Reviews on TA seem to be mixed though most say the hotel is good value for the money, while they note the dated furnishings.

It has been primarily a conference hotel so it doesn't have the usual hotel amenities--room service, restaurant, bar. But it's located right next to Copley Square and between the Back Bay Amtrak/Orange line station and the Copley Square Green line. It's in the middle of many restaurants, easy to walk to many Boston sights, and nearby the Prudential and Copley Place malls--good for shopping and dining especially if the weather is bad.

I have never stayed there but worked on local arrangements for a conference there years ago when it was the John Hancock Conference Center. People loved the price and the location. There were no complaints--unusual for that group. If you get a good price, staying there may be worth it.

Also take a look at lastminutetravel.com and see if there are any good deals. It's often possible to identify the "mystery" hotels from the hotel website.

The location is very good. Parking "across the street" is likely to be very expensive in that area - but likely not a lot of other parking options. It makes me angry when hotel lie in their names, since it is blocks from the Boston Common
