Boston 2 1/2 Days - What to See?
My husband and I will be going to Boston on Thursday (driving from NJ). What are the "don't miss" attractions, restaurants, etc. Also, is the "T" safe to travel on - we're staying at the airport Hyatt, I assume driving should be kept to a minimum in the city.

The Oakland A's are in town. See if you can get tickets to Fenway...

If you like history check out the Freedom Trail or find out about some of the tours that "Boston by Foot" gives. They are entertaining and educational. Walk around the North End (the Italian neighborhood) on any weekend and you are likely to run into a street fair involving parading statues of saints down the street. Also, many wonderful restaurants to eat at, the smells are delicious as you walk down the small narrow streets of the North End. Also, take a stroll thru Beacon Hill -- Very picturesque with cobblestone streets and gas lit street lights. Check out Newberry street if you like to shop. Also, every tourist visits Quincy Market. Eat at Legal Seafood if like great fish.

Yes, definitely take the T, and leave the car behind. The weather is supposed to be terrific this weekend -- find ways to be outdoors.
Ditto the Freedom Trail and Quincy Market recommendations.
The Aquarium and the Science Museum are great, and I don't even like aquariums.
Take a picnic lunch in the public gardents, maybe take a swan boat ride.
Consider a whale watching boat ride, or just a boat tour.

The Freedom Trail is the big "must" in Boston proper -- you can see pretty much all there is to see of downtown in half a day. Just go to the Park T stop (T is extremely safe) and follow the marked path.
An afternoon/evening in Cambridge, strolling through fair Harvard and downing a burger and frappe at Mr. Barley's would be an additional "must" for me as well.
For dinner try Italian in the North End, or enjoy the view and the lobster bisque at The Top of the Hub, a restaurant on top of the Prudential Tower.

our favorite things to do: walk up & down newbury street, have coffee early in the morning at "espresso royale" on newbury (get a newspaper & sit for awhile --before all the students wake up), mid-afternoon "tea" at the four seasons, stroll through the gardens before or after tea, the gardner museum, the museum of fine arts, filene's basement during a really good sale (lotsa fun to watch the crowds). the "t" is fine, just keep your wits about you. people are helpful giving directions, don't be afraid to ask. driving is not for the feint of heart! parking is challenging at best & v. expensive. take the T &/or walk as you can. have a great time!! we used to live there & really miss it.
