Bone Fish Resort
Has anyone stayed at the Bone Fish Resort on Grassy Key? Looks like a nice place on the web site but hoping to find someone who has stayed there. I keep getting recommendations for places that are more expensive than I want to pay and this seems reasonably priced with a tropical atmosphere. I am not willing to pay 125 a night for Banana Bay and other highly recommended places. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I stayed at Banana Bay a number of years ago with the entertainment discount. I was very dissapointed with it. Part of my dissapointment was not knowing what the keys were all about. I couldn't believe the resort's "beach" (which I was told they had.) It was a very very small strip of sand, lots of large rocks and a marina. There is no way you would go swimming there. The place felt very small and closed in. I do remember thinking breakfast by the lovely pool was the nicest part. I would never go back.

Linda-If you are looking for a nice beach in the Keys forget it. There aren't any. The resorts that claim they have a nice beach have a very small strip of shipped in sand and the bottom of the water is muck. The Gulf Side is even worse. Florida Bay is badly polluted. I wouldn't swim there no way no how.
As to hotels, you have been given a lot of great recommendations. If you can't afford them either go off-season, May to December or go to Priceline and bid on a more desireable location. Cheap in the Keys is synomous with roached and being next to the noisy and busy Overseas Highway. Hardly, a dream vacation.

My husband and I stayed at the Bonefish Resort 2 years ago. It was a very clean room although not very spacious. But we had a full kitchen, bathroom, TV, and phone. There is no pool but they have a very nice hot tub and a wonderful deck with a swing. The beach is just for sunning. Althoug about 200 yards offshore there are some old concrete pilings that had lobsters under them. We walked out there and snorkled around the rocks and saw them. They have complimentary paddle boats and a kayak. We used the kayak many times, it was great for exploring the shoreline.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The place is very small and most of the rooms are small but if you're on a budget, which we were, it's a good deal. We never returned there only because they didn't have a pool.
E-mail me if I can be of any further help.
