I'm always amazed when a so-called "blizzard" hits NYC. Cold weather hits the upper midwest about two days before it warms up about thirty degrees and hits the east coast!

Right now I'm listening to the worst howling cold wind you can imagine. Negative 34 wind chill. By tomorrow it will be a kitten in NYC. Blizzards do not exsist in NYC. We were laughing last winter when NYC Mayor Bloomberg was warning people to stay indoors because the temp was eight degrees.

Most of the major US media is based in NYC and they need to get out more often. As in out to the heartland.

Bottom line. When its cold in New York it was thirty degrees colder in the midwest two days ago.

jeez, indy, don't scare me. J. and I both shovel, the younger jerks here don't.

Jor, we know you live in winterland right now...no lawn mowing at least!

We're just excited about the impending storm since we generally get sporadic winter weather here in NJ/NY area (less than 2 weeks ago it was almost 60)...especially this time since it falls on a weekend when we don't have to worry much about getting out first thing in the morning! We can enjoy the snow!

BTW, our Volvo's got the block warmer plugged in and ready for the cold mornings. Just like people who live in real winter climates!

Hey I'm another ex-Buffalonian. ... Living in San Diego. Oh how I remember those snow days when school was out, and we put chains on the tires.. Interesting but when we moved here to San Diego from Buffalo we were invited to join a Buffalo Club. Yes, they have one here. We went to two meetings but all they talked about was the snow. We never went back.

Still have friends and family in Buffalo and we go back once or twice a year. (when it's Spring)

Forget the snowblower - my favorite person over the next 24 hours will be my reliable plowguy (and I guess my husband when he shovels the front walk). Power better be on Sunday PM so I can watch the Patriots win.

Anybody going to the V.O. Travel Show in Boston? It has traditionally snowed for this show for the past ten years, but this storm is ridiculous... Three more weeks and we are off to the D.R....Did grocery shopping yesterday and will batten down the hatches and warm up the snowblower..

Here is Westchester, outside of NYC, they have upped the snow to 18 to 24 inches. I'm not laughing. The City's range is 14 to 21 inches.

My husband just left for the office, I am leaving for a workshop. He told me the first flake I see, we both will LEAVE because within the hour, visibility will be poor.

We already had power outages last night in the area from wind.

Jor, I have no doubt you experience nasty, cold weather. It has been below zero here, so I know how painful it is. But the national weather center, not the mayor has issued a Blizzard Warning - and it's not a JOKE.

I am looking out my window at what I figure to be 10 inches. this equates to at least 18 at the bottom of the driveway, post plow. 15 degrees at mt house about 8 miles from O'Hare.

I have to pick up a niece and friends returning from Scotland today at Noon. Ya Right, they'll be on time.

Hardly ever loose power, underground wires in my neighborhood. I never did understand that bread and milk thing either!

No snow yet here in West Central NJ. But it certaintly looks grey enough to start at any moment. Predictions are now up to 18". I just sent my son off to work in my truck with instructions about 4 wheel drive and snow. He'll be off work at 5pm, just in time to fight his way home through the blizzard. Hospitals just don't close for anything, do they? LOL

That's about what the forecast is for Chicago this morning. I'm planning to head out to the Field Museum in an hour. New Yorkers are even weaker than Southerner's. At least in Raleigh it was a solid sheet of ice that really shut everything down. And I would love to see Dallas residents deal with an inch of snow. Ha Ha Ha. This is another reason why Chicago is the greatest city on earth, we can laugh the weather away.

I am so, so, so happy! I no longer work on Saturday's as of TODAY! With the snow flying outside and temp's dropping, what a perfect first NO WORK Saturday!!Ummmmm Baileys and hot chocolate, fireplace and movies...life does'nt get much better.

We've had blizrds in NYC before and we will have them again.

I will not be rushing out to buy bread, cat food, toilet paper, because here on 14th Street, there are supermarkets and deli's and pizza shops and take out Chinese and Turskish and Chelsea Market and they will all be open.

This isn't Dallas or DC that closes down when they get an inch of snow.

I'm trying to decide which is the worse TV media cliche -- 1) the standup report in front of the box of shovels at the hardware stores or 2) the shot outside the salt barn ``when this storm comes, salt like this will be spread on your roads.''

I am amazed, however, at the TV folks' willpower, they must think it's too early in the year to quaify as this year's ``storm of the century.'' Maybe later.

Reporting in from mid-Michigan. Snowing and blowing - lots of drifting snow, mostly in my driveway of course!

I planned on going to B&N this morning to do some reading for my upcoming trips while enjoying a nice latte, but nixed that idea when I went out to retrieve the morning paper. Made a pot of coffee, then realized that I was out of milk, but didn't panic, just improvised and poured a little Baileys in my cup.

Looking forward to staying inside this weekend; especially after last weekend when I spent two days going between two ice arenas, one here and one 45 miles away in Mt. Pleasant to catch as many of the grandkids' hockey games as possible. Friends think I'm crazy to spend my time in an ice arena when the temps are in single digits. Hey, thats what grandmas do!
