Blakely Hotel New York Report
Just wanted everyone who was interested in this hotel to know it's great! My husband and I just returned from a seven day trip, and would book this hotel again in a heartbeat. Great location on 55th between 6th and 7th ave. Walking distance to the theatre district and even closer to central park. The hotel is the former Gorham, and now the remodel is in a kind of traditional Olde English look with dark wood and plaid fabrics. We were upgraded to a studio suite which had a sitting area with a fold-out sofa bed and chair with ottoman. The room was huge by New York standards and the kitchenette was very nice done in granite with frig and microwave. The bathroom was also a very good size, done in marble. I also peeked in a standard room and they were also a very nice size, with the same bathroom and kitchen. I would also have been happy in a standard room. They are still working on some floors of the hotel, and there is no retaurant yet, but there was no noise from the workman that we could hear. We would highly recommened The Blakely!!

Hi Scrach:
Thanks for reporting in, and glad you liked the Blakely!
Did anyone mention when the renovation would be complete, and the restaurant in place?
Also - can you recall what types of places were in close priximity to the hotel, any good restaurants, shops, etc? Was the area fun and interesting?

BTW Scrach, will you share what you paid per night? I made a reservation a while ago there, then for the longest time they showed no availability for my nights. I just looked again, and the same King Suite room I reserved has gone from $290 per night to $345 a night.

Cheesehead - We stayed there last summer when it was the Gorham. We went to Hairspray and walked back to the hotel afterwards. Not a long walk at all. Sorry, can't remember how far.
There are several restaurants and stores within a few blocks. We REALLY enjoyed a Chinese restaurant on 7th, right near 55th, next to a cheesecake place. Can't remember the name, but we ate there twice. There's a bagel place about a block north, right near Central Park. There's a subway entrance less than a block away. Heading towards 6th/5th, there are several little grocery stores. Needless to say, an excellent location!

Hi Koi:
I checked out Quikbook - they do have some good rates - $249 for a King or Queen room. I have the same type room reserved (run of house) for 240, so it was a little better deal on the hotel website, at least when I made the reservation. I am traveling with my Mom, so I think I will keep my $290 rate for a king suite ( a second reservation I made) I have to cancel one of them soon - was going to ask my Mom what she wanted to do. I suspect she will agree that the suite will be a better option - give us a little more room to spread out. I have a couple of other reservations in NYC too, at some of the other hotels I am interested in, just until I make a final decision.
