Black fly season in the White Mountains

My wife and I are planning to spend about a week in Jackson, New Hampshire. We plan to hike, sightsee and generally relax.

We had planned to go during the second week of June. Will the black flies really be out in force then? Is black fly season bad enough to avoid going at this time? We do plan to do a fair amount of hiking.

Thanks in advance,
Geoff

That far north the black flies should be just about gone by then; and no, they are not bad enough to cancel your trip. Be sure to dress appropriately and get bug spray.

Been vacationing in the White Mountains for almost all my life (25 years). Don't ever remember the blak flies to be a huge problem. Agree with above, bring the spray, and wear appropriate clothes.

I just love Jackson village! There are so many great hiking trails in the vicinity. Have a great trip!
