Big Sur Lodge, Big Sur, CA
In planning an unexpected trip from SF to the LA area (I usually plan much further in advance), I was able to reserve a room at the Big Sur Lodge for a Saturday night in August. It seems to be located inside Pheiffer Big Sur State Park. Any feedback would be appreciated.

These are decent cabins in the park. It is pretty convenient. Big sur generaly either has very expensive lodgings or pretty plain ones. For more of a Big Sur experience, at about the same price, you might want to try the Big Sur Inn, which has been owned by the Dietjen family.

We just stayed there, and it's in a great location. It's not a hotel -- it has "cabins" that are roomy and comfortable, but simple. But there are a number of easy (and hard) hikes you can do, among redwoods, waterfalls, etc. You're only a mile or two from some beautiful beaches.
